I've been asked by our Hostess with the Mostess for tonight, Amy, to add a touch of structure to tonight's conversation. So here, at her request, are Some Silly and Some Important Philosophical Questions with which to ring in the New Year a bit early!

  1. Are you still the same person who went to bed last night?
  2. Would you want to be immortal? Why or why not?
  3. Is beauty subjective? If so, why and how. If not, why not?
  4. How important are the intentions versus the consequences of an action? Intention is important in Japan but in your world does it have any value? Why or why not?
  5. What is justice?
  6. What is reality?
  7. If I buy a bottle of water and someone steals it, who owns the water? Why? And if the person drinks it, what then?
  8. Is anyone here colour blind (other than me)? What if my experience of seeing red is actually like your experience of seeing grey and vice versa? If my red looks like your grey and my green looks like your beige, who is right? Why?
  9. What is the difference between living and being alive?
  10. Where is the line between insanity and creativity? Does it depend on the situation? Why or why not?
  11. Is mental illness an absolute or can you be just a little bit or medium bit mentally ill? Why?
  12. Can you truly be altruistic if helping others makes you feel good? Why or why not?
  13. Is it OK to do something “wrong” if nobody ever finds out about it? Why or why not?
  14. Was math invented or discovered? Why?
  15. What makes you, you? Why)
  16. What happens after we die?
  17. Where were you before you were born? Why or why not?
  18. If lying is wrong are white lies ok? Why or why not?
  19. Is doing something that you don't enjoy for the sake of others sane? Why or why not?
  20. And last but not least- is Schrodinger’s cupboard (in the picture associated with this meetup) broken or not broken? Why?

I hope that you will join us for this discussion.

Given the success of this format we are going to be continuing to gather via Zoom. We will be allowing up to 30 participants for this meeting and, after a brief introduction, we will be splitting off into virtual "tables" of six.
As long as you have RSVP'd before 5:30PM on the day of the event you should receive an email from Robert prior to 6:30PM giving you the Zoom meetup credentials.
*** PLEASE NOTE ***
If you are a member of Table Conversations and you didn't receive an email announcing THIS Table Conversations meetup then you likely won't receive the email with the Zoom information on the evening of the event. Please confirm that your Meetup.com profile is configured correctly by carefully following the step-by-step instructions in this link: https://www.meetup.com/tableconversations/events/270360456/
Otherwise, since I don't control Meetup's mail system, if you are not receiving notifications please contact Meetup.com for assistance.
