Up up and away? A conversation about heroes and heroism
Details
Fictional or real, heroes have a significant place in our society and culture. Tonight we will be discussing heroes and how they affect us.
Thanks to Alan for suggesting this topic, and apologies for the late posting of these questions. It's been a busy week!
- Does Canada have a hero? If so, who is it and why? If now, why not?
- What defines a hero?
- Who is your hero? Why?
- Have your heroes changed as you aged? Why or why not?
- Is hero-worship a problem in politics? In general? Why or why not?
- What are three alternate names for a hero? (hint: this is an Alan question)
- Who was your childhood hero? Why?
- What good do heroes do for society?
- Has social media changed how we define heroes?
- What is the difference between a "hero" and a "super hero"?
- "Heroes are made by the path they choose, not the powers they are graced with." Discuss!
- Who is your favourite Greek hero? Why?
- What is the most heroic thing that someone you know personally has done? What made it heroic?
- Do heroes need villains? Why or why not?
- Can a hero also be a villain? Why or why not?
- Does "right and wrong" figure into heroism? Why or why not?
- Can animals be heroes? Why or why not?
- Is anyone who does something extraordinary a hero? Why or why not?
- Who is your favourite superhero? Why?
- Would you want to be a superhero? If yes, what would your superpower be? If not, why not?
I hope that you will join us for this discussion.
