Onwards and Upwards! A conversation about Success
Details
Welcome back!
Tonight we will be looking at success, both from a personal and societal perspective.
- When you were 18 what did success mean to you? How (if at all) has that changed as you aged? Why?
- Do you feel that you have led a successful life? Why or why not?
- What does success in a relationship mean to you? Why?
- Can a divorce be the result of a successful relationship? Why or why not?
- Do money or possessions equate to success? Why or why not?
- Do you feel like you generally succeed at things you undertake? Why or why not?
- What, to you, is the key to success? Why?
- Is "success" a reasonable goal in life? Why or why not?
- What is the single most critical element in creating a successful business? How about a successful relationship? Why?
- Where in your life do you feel you have succeeded most? Why?
- Can someone "succeed too much"? if so, how? If not, why not?
- Does our society over-value or under-value success, or is the balance just right? Why?
- Is failure a necessary part of success? Why or why not?
- Do you agree with Mark Twain who said, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started"? Why or why not?
- Is success a zero-sum game? For someone to succeed must someone else fail? Why or why not?
- What does success look like for a society? Why?
- True success is not about what you accomplish, it's about who you become along the way. Discuss!
- Once you have succeeded, what's left? Why?
- Does success equate to happiness? Why or why not?
- How do you define success for yourself at this point in your life? Why?
*** BONUS QUESTIONS *** - If you knew with certainty (somehow) at 30 that you could choose to only live another 30 years, but you would be a great success in life, would you choose (or have chosen) that? Why or why not?
- How much success is "enough"? Why?
- Can you think of a "safe" path to success in anything? Is risk necessary for success?
