About us
Tahoe & NorCal Snowshoe & Uphill | Beginner–Intermediate is a friendly, sporty winter hiking group focused on snowshoeing, winter hikes, uphill hiking, and snowy mountain adventures in Tahoe and Northern California.
This group welcomes both beginners and more experienced hikers who enjoy winter conditions and hiking with a mixed-experience group. Outings range from easier winter hikes and snowshoe routes to longer or more challenging winter objectives, depending on conditions and group interest. Everyone stays together—no one gets left behind.
We explore winter terrain around Tahoe and NorCal, including areas such as Donner Summit, Mt. Tallac, Waterhouse Peak, and similar routes. In the future, the group may also venture to more distant peaks like Mount Shasta or Yosemite-area peaks for those interested in bigger winter adventures. The focus is on enjoying winter mountains, building experience over time, and making smart, conservative decisions as a group.
Most outings use basic winter gear such as snowshoes, microspikes, trekking poles, winter boots, and proper layers. The pace is relaxed to steady, with regular breaks and check-ins.
Whether you’re new to winter hiking or snowshoeing, or an experienced hiker looking for consistent winter outings with good people, you’ll fit in well here.

Moderate Snowshoe Hike – Tahoe Vista Trail (Lake Views)
Location not specified yetSunday, February 1 | 9:00 AM Meet-Up
Join us for a 🟨 moderate snowshoe hike on the Tahoe Vista Trail, a classic North Lake Tahoe route that climbs steadily through forested terrain to scenic viewpoints overlooking Lake Tahoe.
Notes:
- The trail will probably be pretty packed and icy, so please bring microspikes—we’ll likely be using them most of the way. Still bring snowshoes just in case we hit deeper or softer snow.
- This is a moderate uphill hike, so it’s not the best choice for beginners or for anyone who hasn’t used snowshoes or microspikes before.
Expect a solid workout, peaceful winter surroundings, and rewarding lake views. This hike is best suited for participants comfortable with uphill travel and winter trail conditions. The pace will be supportive and social, with breaks along the way, but expect sustained climbing and variable snow depending on weather.
