We have a new TAIWAN VIRTUAL REALITY MEETUP scheduled for Saturday, May[masked]; we begin at 2:30pm and end by 5:30pm or so or earlier. These meetups are conducted in ENGLISH. No, you do NOT need to have any previous experience with Virtual Reality to attend. TOPICS TOPIC: VR in Health, Training and Education SPEAKER: Dominic Eskofier DESCRIPTION: Dominic Eskofier, former Head of Virtual Reality for EMEAI at NVIDIA will visit our meetup and bring inspiring examples of the use of VR in health, training and education. Dominic has been an avid VR enthusiast ever since he tried Palmer Luckey's duct-taped prototype of the Oculus Rift, back in 2012. After that, he co-founded the largest unofficial online community for VR (https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus ), started the VR Germany meetup group and is a co-founder of http://www.euvr.org – a non-profit organization pushing the European VR industry. Furthermore, he co-founded the VR startup http://realities.io together with two VR experts which they successfully brought through the Boost VC accelerator in Silicon Valley, before joining Nvidia in 2016. He trained as an Internal Medicine specialist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach and obtained a Masters in Health Professions Education at Massachusettes General Hospital. He has undergone additional training at top institutions around the world, including Harvard Medical School, the University of Illinois at Chicago and Monash University. He has worked as a medical educator at several academic institutions in Japan and has supported the development of medical education in South East Asia through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He was recently appointed as Director of Educational Research at the Center for Education in Medical Simulation at Taipei Medical University. His talk will focus on the current role of VR in medical education, current challenges in the implementation of VR and AR as educational technologies for healthcare specialists and the future perspectives of these exciting technologies in supporting the development of the health workforce of the future.
