Happy New Year! We are so excited to have our very first session of the TAIWAN VIRTUAL REALITY MEETUP of 2017!
The Taiwan Virtual Reality January Meetup is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.
Have you joined our Facebook group? Join us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/taiwan3d for regular updates on things 3D or 360° or VR or AR.
As always, we're setting our meetups as lower key small scale getting-together gatherings as part of our community building efforts.
In addition to meetup discussion and socializing, we may also have discussion or presentational topics ready but we will absolutely leave plenty of time for open discussion among attendees along with free-talk time for connecting, networking, and experiential VRing.
No, you do NOT need to have any previous experience with Virtual Reality to attend.
These meetups are conducted in ENGLISH.
We will meet on Saturday, January 14, and begin at 2:30pm and end by 5:30pm or so or earlier.
Free form social discussion and demos begin after any talks and group discussions end. You are strongly encouraged to bring along your favorite VR viewers to demo, share, or discuss (not required but it's a nice thing to have with you). There will be presentations but also demonstrations and time for free participation as in socialization, meet and greet, and sharing of participants favorite experiences.
TOPICS
If and when we have other confirmed presentation topics, they will go here.
Topic: Hubblo VR Camera
Speakers: Eric Tsang & Dan Cunningham
Company: Hubblo VR
Webpage: http://www.hubblovr.com
Brief Description: We will introduce and discuss the development and performance of the Hubblo VR camera which offers 4K live streaming in 3D and 360-degrees. “Hubblo makes it simple for anyone to virtually share an experience and communicate at the same time,” says Hubblo founder and CEO Eric Tsang. “Artists, performers, event hosts, and anyone who wants to expand their audience beyond a physical location can simply do it with the push of a button.” The Hubblo team developed patent-pending hardware algorithms that deliver stunning video correction and stitching using FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) as the developing framework, and optimizing the outcome with RTL (Register Transfer Level) hardware programming logic. “We are making products for 2 to 3 years in the future, not copying something that already exists,” Tsang said. “Our core innovation has to do with video streaming quality and immersiveness; this tech is at least one year ahead of the market.” For more information, check out our webpages at http://www.hubblovr.com and be sure to like our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hubblovr for updates and more.
After presentations, we will have the following VR sets on hand for folks to try out:
"Google Cardboard" demonstration.
"Google Daydream" demonstration.
"Samsung Gear VR" demonstration.
"HTC Vive" demonstration.
"PSVR (Playstation VR)" demonstration.
Participants are encouraged to bring along their own favorite VR headsets as well.
We are actively seeking presenters, demo providers, or discussion leaders. If you would like to participate, let us know. If you know someone who might like to join us as a presenter or demonstration provider, please do encourage them to contact the organizer. If you're a developer or content creator (3D or 360° or VR or AR with Google Cardboard, Daydream, Gear VR, OSVR, Vive, Oculus Rift, or other systems) and would like to present, please feel free to drop the host a line about being added to the program. You do NOT need to be a content creator to share so if you know of an app or even content that you particularly think others will enjoy, feel free to share as well.
As folks contact the meetup organizers to be included as presenters, we will place their information in this section. Please contact Brian David Phillips at brian@briandavidphillips.com or via the Meetup messaging system if you'd like to present.
Addition program possibilities may include:
"Open VR Discussion" round-table, panel, or group discussion of issues related to virtual reality content development, viewers, software, content, or whatever. If there are specific topics you would like included in discussion, let us know and we will post them here. Feel free to participate and discuss anything else related to 3D or 360° or VR or AR you would like to explore.
"VR Demonstration Time" is when folks are free to share demonstrations of virtual reality or related programs. Feel free to bring viewers and software related to 3D or 360° or VR or AR you would like to demonstrate (formal presenters will have time to present their demo materials to the group prior to breaking into the chaotic free-for-all that is demo time, so if you want specific feedback, it's a good idea to be sign up as a presenter). You do NOT need to be a presenter to bring something to demo (you may demo your own work-in progress for feedback or finish products or simply something by someone else you think is pretty cool).
"Open VR Social" meet and greet in which you can meet others, network, or just generally discuss or share your favorite viewers, software, content, or whatever. Feel free to bring your favorite or most hated VR viewers to brag about or lament or discuss your favorite or not so favorite apps and programs or pretty much anything else related to 3D or 360° or VR or AR you would like to discuss or share.
"More Topics May Be Added" - contact the host (Brian David Phillips) if you would like to be added with a topic of your own.
If you're a developer or content creator (3D or 360° or VR or AR with Google Cardboard, Vive, Oculus Rift, or other systems) and would like to present, please feel free to drop the host a line about being added to the program. You do NOT need to be a content creator to share so if you know of an app or even content that you particularly think others will enjoy, feel free to share as well.
Include the following information with your query (use this format):
"TOPIC or TITLE" to be presented by YOUR FULL NAME and the NAME of YOUR COMPANY OR DEVELOPMENT GROUP (URL of Appropriate Webpage). Provide a few sentences or paragraph giving us an idea of what you wish to be presenting or demonstrating. See previous meetups for examples.
Specific schedule and length of presentation details to be determined later (depending upon number of presentations and time needs and constraints.
As this is part of our series of meetups for the group, we are going low key. We are meeting in a private space in Taipei so space is limited. Therefore we are limiting participation to the first folks who sign up in this meetup event page – it is also appreciated, but not required, if you send a private message to the host Brian David Phillips confirming intention to attend (otherwise you may be removed if we have a waiting list). We absolutely must have a minimum of at least fifteen attendees for the meetup (if we don't make the minimum, we can't promise future events). Future formal meetups may be open to more folks and possibly in other locations as we grow.
Please note, we do take attendance. If you register to attend and do not show up, we have a record. We reserve the right to remove or even ban members who take attendance slots and do not use them. When you take a slot, it can mean someone else can’t go. If you can’t come, then take yourself off the list in a timely manner. It’s the polite thing to do.
SPECIAL NOTICE ~ We are continuing to meet the Cardinal Blue space in Taipei near in and around the area of the CTS Building on Guangfu S. Road:
106台北市大安區光復南路102號7樓 (Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com.tw/maps?q=106%E5%8F%B0%E5%8C%97%E5%B8%82%E5%A4%A7%E5%AE%89%E5%8D%80%E5%85%89%E5%BE%A9%E5%8D%97%E8%B7%AF102)).
國父紀念館站1號出站,看到Starbucks右轉,經過7-11馬上左轉,從Chin Chin咖啡廳旁大樓搭電梯至7樓
7F, No. 102, Guangfu S. Road, Taipei, Taiwan (Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com.tw/maps?q=106%E5%8F%B0%E5%8C%97%E5%B8%82%E5%A4%A7%E5%AE%89%E5%8D%80%E5%85%89%E5%BE%A9%E5%8D%97%E8%B7%AF102)).
Exit from SYS Memorial MRT Station, Exit 1. When you see Starbucks, make a right turn into the alley, and then after you pass 7-11, make your first left. When you reach the CTS building with the Chin Chin cafe, take the elevator to the 7th floor, and look for the office with the red wall and "PicCollage" sign.
See http://cardinalblue.com/address for more info!
The meeting will be held in a private company space so folks are asked to help set up at the beginning of the meeting and to help put things away and clean up after ourselves. The folks who are donating the space our being very gracious and so please tell them THANK YOU and help out. If you are not okay with this, then please do not check attending on the Meetup group's event page.
Please be on time.
There is limited space in the room so if you are not registered, you may not be able to stay (depending upon space). Since this is a largish group, there is a waiting list for folks who miss out on the initial quota of registration spots. If someone signs up but they don't confirm attendance they may be bumped and the next person on the waiting list comes through.
If the event is full and you wish to attend, then register and you will be placed on the waiting list. If someone drops out or is removed, folks on the waiting list get moved into the attendee list (Meetup will notify you of the change in status).
If you would like to be a "presenter" then send some details to Brian David Phillips and we will discuss adding you to the informal program.
***************************************************************
Please be on time as we are booking a narrow window.
If you have not confirmed you will be attending, please do so (send a message to the host in addition to clicking attending here).
BTW, if you haven't joined our FB group, head over to the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/taiwan3d and join us now.
Schedule Details Subject to Revision. Please be aware that specific details on this event may be changed. So, check back every once in awhile to see what has been added or other new details.
If the event fills up and you are unable to register, don't give up completely. As we get closer to the event day, some folks may drop out so you might have a chance to snarf up their spots as they become available.
