** Due to the forcasted extreme heat, the location has been moved from John’s backyard to Jeanne & Wayne’s air conditioned house. ** Here is your chance for a good time with other Beanstalks and to contribute to the Robert Austin Scholarship Fund at the same time. John is hosting a barbeque for a total of twenty Beanstalks and their guests. John is supplying both food and drink. All you need to do is bring your your $20. All proceeds go to the Scholarship Fund. (If you purchased this item at the last auction, you’re all set.) To make it easier for John to plan, please let him know you plan to come no later than Thursday, July 18th. See you there!
Let’s get together after work for drinks and/or dinner. We will meet in the upstairs lounge, find us at the bar. The full menu is available in the lounge, or we can grab a table for dinner in the dining room if the group prefers. Additionally, half price bottles of wine are available on Wednesday.
The Deluxe Station Diner is now under new management and has been renamed Station Diner. The employees and food are still the same. It is located in Newton Center in the old train station building that's right at the Newton Center T stop. It has the right balance of ambiance and good food/drinks, reasonably priced with a very comfortable feel to it; warm and friendly. We sit at the bar if we have a small group. We grab a table for a larger group. I'd classify the food as "comfort food". We've had the burgers, mac & cheese, curried chicken, meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and fish & chips. And of course they do breakfast anytime. Everything has tasted great and was reasonably priced. Several large municipal parking lots are nearby. Meters are free on Sunday and after 6:00 pm other days. MBTA: Green Line, “D” train, Newton Center stop. When you come up the stairs from the train tracks, you are on Union Street. For more than 30 years the Boston Beanstalks have gathered on the first Friday night of the month at the Riverbend Lounge (formerly the Windjammer) at the Newton Marriott. This is the place to start your social calendar planning for the month, arrange carpooling for various events, and find out what's going on with all your Tall friends. If there's enough interest, we'll head into the restaurant around 8:00 PM to continue the conversation and get something to eat.
