About us
Our Tampa Bay Cycling meetup group is targeted for Tampa Bay area cyclists interested in joining together to enjoy biking in the Tampa Bay area. We offer multiple biking speed classes, some shorter introductory group rides averaging from 10 to 12 mph, some rides 12 to 14, and others that are 15 to 18 mph. We are adding leaders for some even faster rides. Please check each meetup for specifics on the average speed anticipated for the bike ride. Most of our rides are as a social, relaxed, but supportive group, in other words no paceline, and trash talking. As we add faster rides some may have a paceline, read the ride description.
Negative or adversarial comments, posts or actions will result in removal and banning of the offending party.
Helmets are required, lights are heavily suggested, and participation is at your own risk, a waiver may be required which leader will bring to ride.
Our founder Patrick Hodgson, started this biking group (originally as Pinellas Pedalers) to meet other cycling enthusiasts and looking forward to exploring the many trails and safe bicycling roads in the area. Although all cyclists of all levels are welcome to join in, our rides will be from 10-90 miles, with most around 20 to 50 miles, and on occasion, a century ride.
We also like to get some of the members to join together to form a team to ride in the various charity events around the state of Florida.
All of our rides are posted on meetup. https://www.meetup.com/Tampa-Bay-Cycling/events/
We at Tampa Bay Cycling do not charge dues.

Important safety advice while cycling.
Location not specified yetThis is not a listing for a ride but is a very important one regarding Safety !!!
Although we, in the Tampa area have never experienced this issue, that I know of, it it is good precaution and advice to consider. Our ride leaders here in the Tampa and sourrounding areas, are some of the best, most experienced and continue to always ensure everyone is safe when we ride together!

# Why Identification Matters on Every Ride
Because the unexpected happens fast — and being known can save your life!
On a recent group ride, a veteran cyclist rolled out with a pack of several dozen riders towards the back. Spirits were high, the pace was smooth, and the chatter was the usual mix of weekend plans and gear envy. But early in, a crash rippled through the back of the group. One rider went down hard. His acquaintances were ahead in the pack and unaware of who crashed until later in the ride.
He briefly blacked out. When he came to, he was disoriented, confused, and unable to answer the simplest questions from EMTs and nearby riders who didn’t know him:
“What’s your name?” “Who should we call?” “Any medical conditions?”
He couldn’t answer any of them.
In those critical minutes, identification wasn’t just helpful — it was essential. Without it, responders had no immediate way to contact family, check for allergies, or understand his medical background. He was physically surrounded by people, yet functionally anonymous.
This is exactly why every cyclist — from the Sunday cruiser to the century veteran — should carry clear, durable identification on every ride.Shoe Tags are the best and always with you: Shop ROAD iD or do a Google search for cycling shoe id tags.
