TARPON TAVERN!
Now that i have your attention... It’s the day after the formal Bikes and Beers ride in Tampa, so it’ll almost be like an informal B&B ride, with the second B optional of course, and technically NOT a part of this ride. We’ll start late enough to allow people from far flung locations to get here, but early enough to still catch the last hour of Sunday brunch at Tarpon Tavern. And yes, they serve beer during brunch if that’s important to you, as it is to me.
Why is this a “nebulous” bike ride? Well, either because I’m a Libra and can’t make a decision, or because depending upon your speed and desire this can be a long ride, a short ride, a fast ride, or Foghat’s favorite, a slow ride. We’ll start at Tarpon Tavern together, ride out the Pinellas Trail past the dog park and eastward. Some will ride fast and far and long, going up to and maybe in Starkey Park. Others will plod as short as Brooker Creek Park. As for the ride leader and anyone who sticks with me, we’re going to Starkey Market, take a nice long, but not too long break before heading back.
—Through or past Brooker Creek Park is optional.
—Past Starkey Market is optional.
—Through Starkey Park is optional.
—Monticello or the Jefferson Memorial or whatever that fancy building is on the way back is optional.
Again, the options selected by the old, fat, and out of shape ride leader are through Brooker Creek Park once but not twice, turn around at Starkey Market, and marble building loop on the return. Your choices, distances and speeds are up to you, and there are no wrong answers, as long as you are back at Tarpon Tavern by 1:00 pm.
All of the usual legal small print and disclaimers are applicable, including but not limited to: following all laws, rules, and regulations, being responsible for yourself and your bicycle including on route repairs, being hydrated and in shape for whatever options you have selected, wearing a helmet, and being courteous.
