Members Only: Make a Cutting Board 101

Did you just get signed off on the bandsaw, jointer, and planer? Want to hone those skills making something beautiful that you can use every day? Join us as we turn a piece of rough lumber into a finished long grain cutting board. The class will give you firsthand experience from processing rough lumber squaring-four-sides to wrapping up with a food safe wood finish. Along the way we'll discuss tips for milling, shaping, sanding, and finishing your project. At the end you'll have a beautiful long grain cutting board perfect for meal preparation or giving as a gift.

Instructor: Josh Mann, The Salty Maker
Josh is an accomplished maker, and passionate about life long learning and sharing skills. As an avid furniture maker, he's crafted everything from built in cabinets and desks, to cutting boards, shop organizers, loft beds, and reproduction mission and prairie style furniture. He also teaches a digital fabrication class helping students get from a logo on a screen to a LED edge-lit sign using image processing, laser engraving, and simple soldering skills. As a long time member and wood shop steward, he volunteers time keeping machinery tuned up, making organizational and safety improvements, helps teach safety classes and is always happy to answer shop questions. He has a natural curiosity for how things work, and solving problems.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Closed toe shoes and safety glasses are required for class. If you are not appropriately dressed, you will be asked to return for the next available class. Dust masks recommended. Hearing protection recommended.
