About us

Stoicism has had a strange decade. It's everywhere and mostly mangled: reduced to cold showers, hustle mantras, and 'dark masculine energy' nonsense that would have made the actual Stoics wince.

This group is for those looking to learn about what the philosophy of Stoicism actually is. Perhaps you've read a bit of Marcus Aurelius or Epictetus and thought, "there's something real here and I'd like to understand it properly."

I'm Tanner Campbell, host of the Practical Stoicism podcast, co-author of What Is Stoicism? A Brief and Accessible Overview (with fellow philosopher Kai Whiting), and founder of the Prokoptôn practising community and journaling program. Through this group I run paid half-day workshops in cities across the UK, working through the ideas that make Stoicism a coherent philosophy: what the Stoics meant by 'the good,' how they thought about emotion, the responsibilities we have to ourselves and the whole, and what it actually takes to live a good life.
