From the earliest days of human civilisation, we have wondered:
Where did the universe come from?
Is there an underlying order or source behind existence?
And what does that mean for how we live?
Different cultures have approached these questions through religion, philosophy, mythology, contemplation and spiritual practice. Some speak of God, some of emptiness, consciousness, nature, unity or an underlying principle.
In Chinese philosophy, one of the most enduring words for this mystery is Tao 道 — “the Way.”
Tao Seekers Melbourne is an open community for people interested in exploring Tao, philosophy, spirituality, Chinese culture, history and the deeper questions of life.
The Tao Te Ching is an important starting point, but our inquiry is not limited to Taoism or any particular religion. Our discussions may also draw from Zhuangzi, the I Ching, Buddhism, Vedanta, Christianity, Western philosophy, mythology and contemporary thought.
We do not assume that all traditions are saying the same thing, nor do we ask anyone to adopt a particular belief.
Instead, we explore questions such as:
What is Tao?
What is consciousness?
What is the self?
What is truth?
Why does everything change?
What is Wu Wei?
What gives life meaning?
Our gatherings include short presentations, open discussion, philosophical and spiritual texts, cultural exploration and personal reflection.
Whether you are spiritual, religious, agnostic, philosophical or simply curious, you are welcome.
Perhaps Tao is a universal principle underlying existence. Perhaps it is something else entirely. Tao Seekers is about exploring that question together.

The events will be fortnightly online presentations with the possibility of one actual in-person meetup session on the final event of a series, depending on attendance and demand.
