Constructively engage your shadow side with the Devil card

Welcome! We meet via Zoom on the Third Thursday of every month.

Join us online to discuss the cards and learn about tarot symbology and archetypes. Over the next 22 months we'll take a deep dive into the symbology of the Major Arcana, beginning with the Fool and ending with the Universe card.

The Major Arcana shows the progress on the path of human evolution. Last month we studied the Thoth deck Art card, key 14, and discussed how to avoid extremes and manage opposing forces to create harmony. This month, we'll discuss the Devil card, key 15, and take a look at our own Shadow, explore our desires and obsessions, and how we can focus our attention on creation.

Aleister Crowley described the Thoth Devil card as representing creative energy in its most material form. It is associated with the zodiac sign of Capricorn, calling it the most exalted of the signs. The goat walks upon the highest and most secret mountains of Earth. It is a reminder to keep striving towards your higher purpose. What do blind impulses lead you to create? How does connecting with your inner darkness and accepting hidden thoughts help you break out of self-imposed limitations? What if everything in life could be seen as pleasurable and playful... encouraging us to keep reaching towards our goals and making material changes in order to achieve them?

What if an inner quality that seems dark and uncomfortable ends up being the motivating energy that leads you to new potential? How can you delve into your Shadow and face uncomfortable realities in order to illuminate them and release their influence on you? How can you direct your focus towards achieving what you want without falling into a maze of distractions?

The Devil card is also related to the Greek God Pan, half-man and half-goat. The Devil steps through Saturn's rings of convention and traditional morality, moving into altered states of consciousness. In this original and primal state of being, a creative seed is born that breaks through the normal status quo. The iconoclastic devil's advocate laughs, plays, and celebrates the dance of life. Devil spelled backwards is "lived."

The Devil gives you permission to play. Enjoy the worldly pleasures of life.
Manifest magic that uplifts and fulfills you and gives your life purpose. Advocate for yourself and lean into your selfhood. Beware the trickster nature that tries to derail your soul's evolution and spiritual potential. Cultivate internal awareness to notice what you're creating in the world. Use your generative force wisely. Energy flows where your attention goes.
