Have faith and search for the mysterious truth with the Hierophant card

Welcome! We meet via Zoom on the Third Thursday of every month.

Join us online to discuss the cards and learn about tarot symbology and archetypes. Over the next 22 months we'll take a look at the Thoth deck Major Arcana, beginning with the Fool and ending with the Universe card.

The Major Arcana shows the progress on the path of human evolution. Last month we discussed the Thoth deck Emperor card, key 4, and how he brings order and stability as the Universal Father figure in the Major Arcana. This month, we'll discuss the Spiritual teacher and his role as a connector of Heaven and Earth while exploring the symbology of the Thoth deck Hierophant card, key 5.

Hierophant wears the crown of Egyptian god Osirus. His right hand holds a key shaped staff with 3 circles. Two fingers of his left hand point to Earth. He is enveloped by a series of concentric pentagrams and five-sided polygons. He is surrounded by a bull (sign of Taurus) and four masks representing the four fixed signs of the Zodiac: Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio, and Taurus. This same set of signs is also seen on the Thoth Universe card (and on the Wheel of Fortune card in the Rider-Waite Smith deck).

Goddess Isis stands in the foreground holding a sword and shining her golden light upwards, illuminating the child of Horus in the star on Hierophant’s chest. Horus is the son of Isis and Osirus. Isis, Osirus, and Horus align with the trinity of Mother, Father, and Son as well as the three astrological ages (Aeons) described by Aleister Crowley in his books.

The Hierophant is a mediator of opposites, bridging realms to bring unity. He is the center of a cross uniting its four arms: Cosmos, Earth, Masculine, and Feminine. He channels the Universe’s knowledge into practical information for our physical reality, translating Divine wisdom into concepts humans can understand and experience with our five senses.
