Tune into your inner knowledge source with the Hermit card
Details
Welcome! We meet via Zoom on the Third Thursday of every month.
Join us online to discuss the cards and learn about tarot symbology and archetypes. Over the next 22 months we'll take a look at the Thoth deck Major Arcana, beginning with the Fool and ending with the Universe card.
The Major Arcana shows the progress on the path of human evolution. Last month we discussed the Thoth deck Adjustment card, key 8, and explored how to stay centered and adaptable during chaotic times. This month, we'll discuss the Hermit card, key 9, and look at how to tap into our inner knowing to find clarity.
The Hermit is on a spiritual journey to discover his true nature and purpose. He illuminates the way, bringing light to the darkness. He shines his light to help show the way to other souls. To hear his inner voice, he must disconnect from the crowds whose speech and desires threaten to overcome his own. He walks through the dark night of his unconscious, guided only by the light of his lantern. His destination is his home: his Higher self.
The sun illuminates his lantern and light rays shine in all directions. As above, so below. His double pyramid lantern glowing with sunshine indicates the energization of the creative potential of the Universe.
A three-headed dog, Cerberus, the Hound of Hades, stands at Hermit's feet. Cerberus is the guardian of the gates of the Underworld, the eternal darkness. The dog's three heads indicate the tamed Lower self, and the heads represent speech, thoughts, and actions.
The Hermit card is related to the myth of Persephone, the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, who was abducted by her uncle Hades, the god of the underworld. She was taken to the underworld and forced to become Hade's queen. Her mother, Demeter, the goddess of harvest, searched for her in despair, causing the Earth to become barren. Zeus intervened, and a compromise was reached: Mercury, who guides the souls of the dead through the Underworld, helps Persephone return to the World every Spring. She spends half the year with the living, but every Fall she must return to spend the second half of the year with Hades in the underworld. Persephone's annual descent marks the onset of Winter, when crops die. Her return symbolizes Spring, a season when life renews.

I'll send the Zoom login details via Meetup about an hour before the event starts on Thursday. RSVP to this event or send me a private message to get the link.
Please have your favorite tarot deck handy (if you have one), a journal, and a pen to take notes. And a lovely cup of tea, if you'd like.
As always, a $5.00 contribution is appreciated to help us cover the costs of this meetup. However, no one is turned away for lack of funds. I'll provide details for paying via Venmo or PayPal.
See you online!
