What we're about

Hello Local Photogs.

We are one of the largest and most active groups of photographers in Minnesota . We service Minneapolis and St Paul. We are more than just your ordinary camera group. We a a tight community of artist who promote and support each other whether you are a beginner, hobbyist or pro we are here to support you. Most of our events happen in Minneapolis and St. Paul or around the metro area but we do travel and do weekend getaways in Minnesota and Iowa.

Event Descriptions

Our events are tiered . To make it easier for you to understand I provided a basic description of each Event we do.

Meetups: -- When our event description starts with the word Meetup up consider this an all play Free events open to anyone who would like to come play. This can include things like Nature and urban photowalks , outdoor events like Hot air balloon launches, Hot Sams, polar plunges , Socials gatherings museum and art exhibits, etc.

ONLINE CHALLENGE: Free and Open to everyone. The key word here is "ONLINE" this not a meetup. It is an online challenge to get you shooting and posting your work. Each month we will post a monthly online challenge on the first of the month. Throughout the month people will be expected to post their images. The winner is determined your votes in an online poll at the end of the Month. The winner receives a 18x12 print of their image. A duplicate of their image is printed and proudly displayed in the studio as the months contest winner.

Critique Night: $5.00 donation . Critique nights are great nights of learning for all levels. Members are encouraged to bring 2 images to be critiqued by our mentor/instructor of the month. Unlike other camera clubs our critiques encourages feedback from the audience. They become more of a discussion. We try to have different instructors/mentors lead them every month. This helps to provide us with fresh views and feedback.

Lectures - TBD sometimes we get free lectures sometimes they are paid

Roundtables - $5.00 donation. This is a group discussion for sharing knowledge and questions on a certain topic. The discussion is guided by a TCPG mentor. Because this is a discussion it is very limited in seating. Only 6 at a time. It has grown very popular. There will always be a waitlist for these please sign up on the waitlist so you can get rolled into the next one. Please do not sign up for more than one of these a month. We would like to give everyone a chance. If you can't make it please release your seat so others can attend. If you have ideas for more roundtables please let me know. We are currently doing photoshop roundtables. If you want to lead a roundtable let us know we would be happy to talk to you.

Workshops - paid event . Reservations are first come first served. Workshops are more extensive than lectures instructors are prepared with agendas and outlines. They will dive deeper into subjects have handouts and often will provide hands on experience with shooting or image editing work.

Photography Tours - Paid events .

Reservations are first come first served.

Waitlist - A waitlist is established when an event is filled. If spots open at the event we will manually

assign the seats. We strongly suggest you put yourself on the waitlist if there is one. It helps us determine

the interest level in an event when planning.

A Chance to Photograph Musicians
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

Urban Arts, the group that sponsored A Night of Art & Burlesque has invited our group to participate in their upcoming event A Night of Art & Music. Music is the theme and instead of burlesque dancers and live models we will be shooting live musicians. The event will be Sat, Dec 18th from 7 pm to 1 am in Urban Arts warehouse at 558 Vandalia St in St Paul. Again there will be an art exhibit and 4 bands: Brasamba, Glo Pesci, The Abstract Pack and Sunny Era. The setting will be a bit more light challenging since it is in a warehouse. But, they will have spots up around the artwork and plan filter lights in the band area. Also, they will have the infamous Miles Mendenhall as the Guest Artist from the hit Bravo show Work of Art. His work and installation/performance piece may also make for some great shots. Tickets are $10 in advance at www.VitalCulture.com or $15 at the door and include music, appetizers and refreshments. After the buzz of their first event, you won?t want to miss this one.

Minnesota Zoo Member Mondays
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

We are supporting members of the Minnesota Zoo. The zoo routinely has one Monday a month when there are no large groups so that members have a quieter zoo. One of those days might be ideal for a meetup. However, this time of year, the zoo hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and of course, this is a working day for many people.

Winter Outdoor Wildlife/Nature Photography
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

If might be fun to learn some tips and tricks for nature and wildlife photography outdoors during the winter. How do we protect our equipment? How does snow fool your auto-exposure? Hand warmers on your lens? What else? I don't know. Anyone out there have some experience in tracking down winter beasts without ruining your gear or dying of hypothermia?
