Did you know? Plant-based protein sources have a significantly lower carbon footprints than animal-based protein sources. Even the highest-impact bean or tofu emits less than the lowest-impact chicken, pork, or beef!

Plants come with other pros: Beans fix nitrogen in the soil, reducing the need for fertilizers. Tree nuts are one of the few foods that can be carbon-negative, since they grow on carbon-storing trees.

Last year, in 2025, the meat giant Tyson lost a lawsuit for claiming that beef can be "climate-smart" and "net zero". They have to pay damages, but the misinformation is still out there. At this potluck, we aim to promote and consume protein that is actually environmentally-friendly: beans, lentils, nuts, soybeans, and grains!

Please bring a dish featuring beans, nuts, seeds, lentils, seitan, or soy as a main ingredient. Please also bring a list of ingredients.

You're welcome whether it's your first time opening a can of beans or if you're an experienced chef. Potlucks are a great way to try a new recipe in a low-risk way. Here's a list of ideas and links to try:

We'll use ceramic plates and metal silverware at the potluck so as to not pollute our environment. If you can stay afterwards to help hand-wash dishes, thank you!

See you at the potluck!
