Since 2017, the Oregon Interscholastic Cycling League has been empowering middle and high school students to discover the joy of cycling and the beauty of the outdoors. As part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), the Oregon League fosters participation, inclusivity, and positive sporting behavior—placing community over competition and growth over results.
The Hop Head Hundred is more than just a century ride—it’s a rolling celebration of bikes, community, and purpose. Hosted in the scenic farmlands surrounding Independence, Oregon—once the “Hop Capital of the World”—this supported road ride offers smooth pavement, open skies, and steady climbs to test those late-season legs, all capped with a post-ride toast in honor of Oregon’s next generation of riders.
Whether you're chasing a milestone or simply out to soak in the views, the Hop Head Hundred delivers a ride rich in autumn color, fresh air, and the camaraderie that only comes from covering miles with good people. Routes are thoughtfully designed to showcase the pastoral beauty of the Willamette Valley, with well-stocked aid stations, friendly volunteers, and a welcoming finish line celebration.
A portion of the proceeds from this event supports the Oregon MTB League, helping fund programs that introduce youth to mountain biking through trail stewardship, bikepacking adventures, skills clinics, and a race series that continues to grow across the state. With 14 teams and over 350 student-athletes already involved, every mile you ride helps fuel a movement.
And the ride is just the beginning.
The Hop Head Hundred coincides with Independence’s Hop & Heritage Festival—a town-wide celebration of local culture, hops history, and small-town hospitality. Stick around after your ride and enjoy live music, food vendors, local beer, and family-friendly activities. The whole town gets involved, and the energy is something special.
