Golden paths are one of the defining ideas of platform engineering. In mature engineering organizations with well understood practices, they reduce cognitive load, improve consistency, and enable teams to move faster with confidence.

But what about organizations that are still growing? When products, architectures, and engineering practices are evolving rapidly, defining opinionated golden paths too early can unintentionally constrain teams or force platform engineers to continuously chase changing requirements.

This talk explores a thought experiment: What if, instead of designing golden paths upfront, we allowed them to emerge through continuous feedback from development teams?

Nisal will explore a lightweight platform approach built with IAC, Git, and CI/CD, where platform capabilities are composed from reusable building blocks, improvements can be rolled out centrally, and successful patterns gradually evolve into organizational standards. Rather than predicting every future need, the platform evolves alongside the teams that use it.
