March Studio Oil Painting Class, Fallbrook

Class notes for 3/9: We will be doing quick, small plein air sketches in the immediate vicinity of the studio. There will be still lifes with two or three objects, or you can turn in just about any direction and do a small plein air landscape. The point of the exercise is practice placing accurate color spots - seeing the temperature, chroma and value of each. Place the color spot and move on to the next one. This is the basis of painting. No matter how far you push the detail, the painting starts with an accurate underpainting. Here are a few examples by a Russian painter, Yuri Konstantinov, that show the minimal detail.

You will need to bring your plein air kit, portable easel, since we will be outside. Have two or three small panels, 6x8" or 8x10".

Class will meet on four Wednesdays in March - 3/9, 3/16, 3/23 and 3/30. Enrollment is for the entire month and is $140 ($35 a class). You may sign up for a single class, $40, the first time you come - to see if the class is for you. After that sign up is by the month.

The class is for all levels and each student works on a painting of their choice. I help you at your level. Currently, most students are working on landscape. Please consult with me before class to determine your project.

The class meets in a private studio near Eli's Farms in north Fallbrook, 1 mile from the Mission exit off I-15. Directions will be supplied upon enrollment.
