- Pickleball (3 courts)2707 S College Ave, Tempe, AZ
Free event.
Indoors. All skill levels welcome.
This location has THREE COURTS, which means we can accommodate 12 people playing simultaneously.
Instruction will be provided for beginners (incl. people who have never played before).
Pickleball is the nation's fastest-growing sport. It is a fun sport to play with people of all ages and all levels of athletic ability. Playing pickleball provides good exercise. Some of the reasons why pickleball is popular among older and less-athletic people: In pickleball, you’re hitting a plastic wiffle-like ball, so it’s less bouncy and doesn’t fly as fast through the air. And the paddle is much easier to handle because it’s shorter and lighter than a tennis racket.
We will have enough paddles, balls for everyone. But feel free to bring your own paddle if you have one.

Preston and Kumiko host college students from Japan who come to Arizona to study English as a Second Language (ESL) at Arizona State University (ASU). These students participate in ASU's "Global Launch" program. Hosting these students has enriched our lives immensely.
Hosts are compensated financially.
If you are interested in hosting ESL students from Japan, come to this information event at our home!
Tracy Howerton, senior coordinator at OvECS Ltd. (AZ Homestay), will lead a presentation that will tell you everything you need to know about hosting. (azhomestay.com) Tracy, and event hosts Preston and Kumiko, will answer all of your questions.
The program is always looking for new hosts. These are people who are willing to welcome these students into their homes. Especially wanted are hosts who live within a short distance of ASU or live near bus/shuttle/light rail routes that students can use to easily get to ASU.
Students request homestays because they want to learn American culture and practice their English in the world's greatest classroom, your home. Hosts not only give a student the chance to experience daily American life, but they will also have an opportunity to learn about another culture.

https://givebutter.com/basicincomeMichael Simm is one of the leading members of the neighborhood potluck group. He has hosted four great events already. Many of you have met him at other events, as he is a frequent participant. Michael is hosting his biggest event yet in May 2024, and we have selected this as our anchor event for the month!

- Interactive activities and games
- A presentation by Michael Simm, Founder & Executive Director of The Logical Foundation, on our plan to end the homelessness crisis in Arizona.
Who? Everyone is welcome!
What Should I Wear? Business casual.
What Should I Bring? Just bring yourself! Please do not bring food. Food and drinks will be provided.
Parking Note: Overflow parking is available in all of the parking lots to the East of Arizona Studios.
Does this mean that the neighborhood group officially supports the Logical Foundation's strategies for eliminating homeless in Tempe? The neighborhood group is 100% non-partisan and does not "take positions." We do not "support" or "oppose" basic income. The group supports all members of the group and all members of the community. Michael knows that if anybody wanted to organize an event in direct opposition to his ideas, that we would gladly do so. He would probably be the first to sign up to attend. Michael welcomes everyone at these events, especially skeptics and those who have serious questions about his organization's approach.
- Socratic Potluck: Gender Identity101 W 5th St, Tempe, AZ
Free event.
Event Host: Bruce Garfinkel. Venue Hosts: David and Sonia.
Join us for an event which will be enjoyable and thought-provoking!
Questions to be discussed:
• Which gender identity do I most closely align with?
• Should people choose their preferred bathroom?
• Should the government be involved in which gender identity a person can choose to use?
• Should a driver's license gender identify be decided by the state one lives in?This is is part of a series of events in which neighbors discuss serious topics relevant to our time. These discussions include people from all perspectives and points of view. Those who attend enjoy each other's company and enjoy breaking bread with neighbors who disagree with them.
These are not lectures, speeches or debates. These are discussions in which everybody has an equal opportunity to share their ideas. These are not attempts to "convert" anybody to any particular viewpoint. The group as a whole does not have a "position" on any topic.
People may bring relevant articles (news, magazine, etc.), documents, photos, advertisements, cartoons, quotes, etc. that express their point of view, or which are simply interesting. (Nobody is required to bring any of these.)
Format: After everyone has had an opportunity to serve themselves a plate of food, the event host will introduce the topic with a two-minute statement, written by the event host and the group organizer, framing the discussion. We will then watch a short video on YouTube. Then everyone in the room will have an opportunity to speak about the topic for one minute. (They are welcome to pass and say nothing.) The discussion will then continue, with people taking turns speaking, facilitated by a moderator. The moderator or event host may pose questions during the discussion.
What to Bring: Guests may bring any type of food. Enough to feed about 12 to 15 people. Bring a main dish, salad, side dish, homemade bread, etc. (We already have enough desserts.) Hosts will provide drinks, plates, utensils, etc.
