"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water."

June 2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of the release of one of greatest films of all time: Jaws!

Directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, "Jaws" is the story of a great white shark and some humans, including Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss.

We will celebrate this anniversary with a Jaws-themed event. We are going all-out on the Jaws-themed decor. Take photos in front of a giant shark backdrop. Clam chowder will be served along with Cape Cod chopped salad.

Jaws Trivia! The event will feature a Jaws-based trivia challenge. Multiple choice. Guests will compete as tables. (The people at your table are your team.)

• 6:00 PM: social
• 6:30 PM: dinner
• 7:00 PM: meeting

What to Bring? Guests may bring any type of food. Enough to feed about 10 to 12 people. Bring a main dish, salad, side dish, bread, etc. (No desserts, please. We already have enough desserts.) Bonus points if you bring seafood. Hosts will provide drinks, plates, utensils, etc.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

This will be an entirely INDOOR event. The event will take place at Preston's home. But if the number of people who RSVP exceeds the space available there, the event will be held in the cultural hall at the meetinghouse across the street from Preston's house. (Where we can seat at least 100 people.)

The Phoenix area Epicurean Toastmasters Club (founded 21 years ago in Tempe, AZ) meets once every month - almost always on the first Friday of the month at 6:00 PM. The club meets at different locations for great meals and friendship, in restaurants, private homes, and other locations. The club regularly invites the neighborhood potluck group to join them, and we have a wonderful time doing so.

As with all Epicurean Toastmasters meetings, there will be one or two speeches, 6 to 7 minutes long. And there will be a "Table Topics" session, during which guests will be able to practice impromptu speaking for 1 to 2 minutes, in response to a prompt or question posed by the Topic Master. Nobody is required to speak if they don't want to.

What will the speeches be about? We don't know yet. These are often humorous speeches about something personal. The point of the Toastmasters organization is to help people improve their public speaking abilities.
