The Book: North Woods (2023), by Daniel Mason. 384 pages

North Woods is a 2023 novel by American novelist Daniel Mason. The novel, Mason's sixth, is a work of historical fiction that tells the story of a single house in New England over the course of several centuries. The novel follows the inhabitants of a single house in New England over the course of several centuries, from the earliest American colonies to the present day. The home's inhabitants and visitors include a set of Puritan lovers, twin sisters, a crime reporter, a cougar, and a pair of mating beetles.

North Woods was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 2023 and received a PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Award in 2024.

What to Bring? You do not need to bring anything. Simply read the book OR listen to the audio book before attending the meeting. It can be useful if you bring your physical or digital copy of the book.

Who? This is a fun book club event that men and women from the neighborhood potluck list are invited to, along with everybody else who is interested.

Fun Book Club: This will be the 35th monthly meeting of this book club. We had so much fun at the all of the meetings so far, with wonderful, fascinating discussions with great neighbors and new friends. If you like books or interesting discussions... or simply want to have fun meeting new people, I highly recommend RSVP-ing for this event.

Is there a movie adaptation of North Woods? No. But the structure of this novel is very similar to that of the film "Here," starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. "Here" is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire, NOT Daniel Mason's novel North Woods. It may be interesting to compare and contrast these two different works. For that reason, we are planning to schedule a watch party right before the North Woods book club meeting. But watching "Here" is not a replacement for reading North Woods.
