Details

Fine Country Folk, a Shadow of the Demon Lord adventure for a group of novice characters (Level 1), thrusts a group into the midst of a deadly struggle between two twisted and murderous families who make their home in the Lonely Vale (think Texas Chainsaw Massacre or the Wrong Turn franchise but with Fantasy elements).

NOTE: This adventure will likely take more than one session!

Adventure Synopsis: Those who live beyond civilization’s bounds face a daily, brutal struggle just to survive the hazards and horrors of the vast wilderness they call home. In the rolling hills and deep forests where few willingly tread, one can find all manner of hungry, violent things: from rabid animals and brutish beastmen to ravenous ogres and other terrible monsters who defy description. While the constant press of both danger and isolation often drives ordinary folks to dark and brutal acts to ensure they live to see another day, none of what these people might do comes close to the horrific deeds carried out by the two clans living in the Lonely Vale.

About the Game System: Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror fantasy tabletop role-playing game styled after Dungeons and Dragons Fifth edition but with a streamlined ruleset that emphasises horror elements. The game takes place in a world standing on the brink of the apocalypse. The cause is the Demon Lord, a boundless evil being of staggering power who authors the catastrophes blighting the landscape.Shadow of the Demon Lord is played with two types of dice: a d20 and a d6. Instead of using a scaling set of numbers to model easier and harder tasks, the game uses banes and boons. For each positive circumstance that could help the player succeed, they have a boon. For each negative circumstance that might prevent their success, they have a bane. Banes and boons cancel each other out. When attempting to complete a task, for each bane or boon, the player rolls a d6 with their d20. Of the numbers rolled for boons, they add the highest number rolled to the number they rolled on the d20. Conversely, of all the numbers rolled for banes, they subtract the highest number rolled from the number they rolled on the d20.

How I Like to run games: I prefer role-play heavy but with crunchy and brutal combat encounters. Your character may die, but it WILL be cinematic. I also prefer to run games that are adult oriented - expect maximum horror, gore, and psychological fuckery. I am not a slave to rules, except for one: the rule of cool. If you can describe what your character does with flare and gravitas I’ll allow it. If the game goes well and your characters survive, this could lead into a short campaign.

Any questions or concerns? Feel Free to ask in the comments.
