Teszt and Tea + Craft meet-up - Special Edition with Emily Bache and Randy Shoup

We will organize our next meetup in cooperation with Craft Conference. This time the meet-up will be both in-person and in English. We are still discussing who and what will present but we wanted to share as much as we can so you can save the date.

Our first speaker will be Randy Shoup, VP ENGINEERING AND CHIEF ARCHITECT AT EBAY

### Randy has spent more than two decades building distributed systems and high performing teams, and has worked as a senior technology leader at eBay, Google, and Stitch Fix. He coaches CTOs, advises companies, and generally makes a nuisance of himself wherever possible. He talks a lot -- sometimes at conferences about software -- and is interested in the nexus of culture, technology, and organization. He is currently VP Engineering and Chief Architect at eBay.

His talk will be...

Software Delivery at Scale

As the research in Accelerate and the State of DevOps Reports shows, high-performing organizations deliver software to customers more rapidly, more repeatably, and more reliably. This leads to higher quality software and better business results. All this requires an ongoing investment in continually improving the product development process. And as organizations scale, the more investment it requires.

Based on the speaker's experiences leading high-performing organizations at Google and eBay, this session shares several important lessons on improving software delivery. We will discuss development practices that create smaller units of work, which are easier to validate, test, roll out, and roll back. We will discuss modern techniques like continuous integration, automated testing, and automated canary deployment. Finally, we will discuss the culture and behaviors that make these techniques work effectively.

You will leave with specific suggestions that you can apply in your own organizations.

Our second speaker is Emily Bache...

# Approval Testing

Approval testing is a technique that helps you to get a difficult codebase under test and begin to control your technical debt. Approval testing works best on larger pieces of code where you want to test for multiple things. Because of this, the architecture of the system is really important for success with this testing technique, and so is collaboration between testers and developers. In my experience, investing in testability and setting up automated approval tests will make your testing cheaper and it will tell you more about any possible problems than other kinds of testing.

In this talk you will learn about what Approval testing is, why it can work well even in complex codebases, and what architectural changes are needed for it to flourish.
