**READ THROUGH BEFORE SIGNING-UP (and ensure you check your meet-up chat regularly :-) )** Can't think about a better way to wrap up the week then kayaking around the city channels. GreenKayak, a NGO dedicated to raise awareness to ocean pollution, makes few (open) kayaks available across the city to paddle and help collecting waste floating in the water. Open kayaks are typically easier to manovre than other types, and do not require EPP2/EPP3 patents. I booked 2 double kayaks for 4 ppl in total. It is possible to use the facilities at Kayak Republic free of charge: restrooms, lockers and showers. **REQUIREMENT** \- Safety first \- Need to be able to swim comfortably \- Waterproof gear preferable \- Sun lotion and sunglasses \- Change of clothes in case yours get a bit wet during paddling \- Towel\, if you want to shower or just in case **COST** Unfortunately, due to the frequent last minute cancellation last summer, it was challenging backfilling participants with short or no notice, and it was very disrespectful to the group and GreenKayak NGO. **To reserve your spot, please transfer 150 kr. to my mobilepay 25717293**. The amount will be returned to you if you show up on time, or the event is cancelled for other reasons; **this remains a free non-profit event**. The kayak rental is free of charge provided that: \- we are able to pick\-up some waste during our paddling activity \- we share our experience on the So\.Me \#GreenKayak **AGENDA** 16:50- Meet up - please be on time 🙂 16:50-17:00 Briefing and getting ready 17-00-18:45 Paddling around Copenhagen channels and return to the start point 18:45-19:00 Return the equipment to Kayak Republic **DISCOMFORT LEVEL** \- 3/5 **TO LEARN MORE** [GreenKayak](https://www.greenkayak.org/)

Nightwood by Djuna Barnes
Nightwood by Djuna Barnes
Thanks to everyone who joined for our latest discussion of *Zorba the Greek* by Nikos Kazantzakis yesterday. It was wonderful to see both familiar and new faces, and I hope you all had a meaningful and enjoyable conversation. The next book to read is *[Nightwood](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightwood)* (1936) by [Djuna Barnes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djuna_Barnes). Set primarily in Paris during the interwar years, *Nightwood* follows a group of deeply entangled characters navigating love, obsession, longing, identity, and loss. Dark, poetic, and psychologically intense, the novel has become one of the defining works of literary modernism. A short description of the book reads: *Widely regarded as a modernist masterpiece, Nightwood explores desire, alienation, gender, and emotional dependency through some of the most lyrical and haunting prose of the twentieth century. It is also considered one of the earliest major novels to openly portray same-sex love between women.* You can read more about the book [here](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53101.Nightwood) and listen to it as an audiobook [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoAM5_gJNZw): Although *Nightwood* has never had a major film adaptation, the novel has had a profound literary influence. Writers such as T. S. Eliot, who helped edit and publish the book, praised its style and originality, and it has since become a cult classic within both modernist and queer literary history. For other resources on how to get a hold of classic books, please see the *[About](https://www.meetup.com/copenhagen-classic-book-book-club/)* section on the front page of the group. We meet up on **Saturday, June 13th, at 4 p.m.** The location will once again be the [Garden of the Royal Library](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Library_Garden,_Copenhagen). During the spring and summer months, we always meet outside here. If the weather turns rainy, we will simply move indoors. Please remember to bring your suggestion for the next classic book to read. And, as always, please be mindful and respectful of each other, so that everyone feels welcome and appreciated. In the meantime, happy reading/listening — or however you prefer to do it.

Shut Up & Write!™ Copenhagen
Shut Up & Write!™ Copenhagen
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at our Copenhagen Shut Up & Write! sessions. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, résumé, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: - 15 minutes of hellos and getting settled; maybe some quick intros. - Then, the timer starts! : writing for 1 hour. - After the hour is up... chat / take off / keep writing, if you're on a roll. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens once the hour of writing is complete. Writing can be very solitary... connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. It's best to be on time, but BEING LATE IS ALSO OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check in with us after the session. (We’ll be the ones with the small Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.

Café Philo Copenhagen
We meet on Saturdays late mornings to have a casual, meaningful conversation on topics of interest to everyone chosen on the spot by majority voting. So please feel free to propose your own topic! Everyone is welcome to talk, but if you prefer to just join and listen, that is perfect too. As the contacted cafés usually only give reservations to eating guests, it is very welcome if you order something to eat during our stay. This is however not mandatory. This event is in English. The exact place can still change.

St. Petersburg Book Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
**🍵 Book Night: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid** We're gathering to look closely at The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid in an easy-going group where everyone contributes, and no two sessions ever feel the same. Read as much as you can before coming, and note a scene or passage that struck you, and bring your opinions — because you do not need to be an expert reader to have something valuable to say. The format is relaxed and member-led — with all opinions treated as equally valid, and the group's range of perspectives is what makes it work. This is an open group and new faces are always a good thing — and the group is warm and unpretentious in equal measure, the only requirement is showing up ready to talk, and the discussion gets richer with every new reader who joins. --- **Good to bring:** - Your best questions and your strongest opinions - A coffee or tea if you want one during the session - Notes from your reading however informal - A copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to reference during discussion 💡 **A quick note:** read the last chapter even if you skipped the middle, as a single flagged scene is more useful than a general impression, and the conversation builds on it immediately. --- 🌻 Good books are better with good company — join us and bring your read and everything you need is already there when you arrive. The discussion starts when you arrive. 🌻

Port St. Lucie Book Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
**📚 Reading Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Free to Join** We're meeting up to share thoughts on our current read, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid in a casual and welcoming atmosphere, and the discussion tends to go in unexpected directions. Discussion flows wherever the group takes it — with the book as a launchpad for wherever things lead, and people who expected a quiet evening often end up talking the longest. No requirement to finish — come wherever you are in the book, and mark the parts that surprised you most, and bring your analysis — as the group's conversation is richer for having every viewpoint in the room. Anyone is welcome regardless of reading experience — and you will find the group easy to talk with from the start, bring your reactions and leave the rest to the discussion, and the group's warmth makes it genuinely easy to join in. --- **Good to bring:** - Any notes or passages you flagged while reading - A copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to reference during discussion - An open mind and a willingness to debate **A quick overview:** - Everyone finds a seat and the discussion opens whenever the group is ready - The group digs into the book and the conversation goes wherever it leads - At some point toward the end the group votes on or suggests next month's read 💡 **Worth knowing:** note the moment you felt the strongest reaction whatever that was, since your strongest reaction is usually your most interesting contribution, and you will find that even a rough note is worth more than nothing. --- 🌻 The best reading is always shared reading — sign up and bring your reading experience however partial and you will leave with more than you came with. The conversation gets better with every reader in the room. 🌻

Tampa Book Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
**📖 Literary Circle: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid · No Commitment Required** We're sitting down to analyse and talk through this month's pick — The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid in a relaxed and open group setting, and you rarely leave without a new perspective. Come having read whatever you managed, and note any characters or moments you want to unpack, and bring your reading notes — because unfiltered reactions tend to open up the most interesting threads. Newcomers are always made to feel at home — and you will find the group easy to talk with from the start, bring the book and a willingness to talk, and the discussion tends to do the heavy lifting. The session is loosely structured — with disagreement and debate genuinely encouraged, and every reading of the same book turns out to be a different book. ⭐ *"Left with a completely different view of the book — the host keeps things inclusive without making it feel managed"* – returning reader 💡 **Pre-session tip:** mark the page you most want to talk about, because it takes thirty seconds and pays off for the entire session, and everything after that is just conversation. --- ✨ Reading alone is one thing — reading together is another — RSVP and come ready to talk and you will leave with more than you came with. Your seat is waiting. ✨
