**READ THROUGH BEFORE SIGNING-UP (and ensure you check your meet-up chat regularly :-) )**
Can't think about a better way to wrap up the week then kayaking around the city channels.
GreenKayak, a NGO dedicated to raise awareness to ocean pollution, makes few (open) kayaks available across the city to paddle and help collecting waste floating in the water.
Open kayaks are typically easier to manovre than other types, and do not require EPP2/EPP3 patents.
I booked 2 double kayaks for 4 ppl in total.
It is possible to use the facilities at Kayak Republic free of charge: restrooms, lockers and showers.
**REQUIREMENT**
\- Safety first \- Need to be able to swim comfortably
\- Waterproof gear preferable
\- Sun lotion and sunglasses
\- Change of clothes in case yours get a bit wet during paddling
\- Towel\, if you want to shower or just in case
**COST**
Unfortunately, due to the frequent last minute cancellation last summer, it was challenging backfilling participants with short or no notice, and it was very disrespectful to the group and GreenKayak NGO.
**To reserve your spot, please transfer 150 kr. to my mobilepay 25717293**. The amount will be returned to you if you show up on time, or the event is cancelled for other reasons; **this remains a free non-profit event**.

Nightwood by Djuna Barnes
Thanks to everyone who joined for our latest discussion of *Zorba the Greek* by Nikos Kazantzakis yesterday.
It was wonderful to see both familiar and new faces, and I hope you all had a meaningful and enjoyable conversation.
The next book to read is *[Nightwood](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightwood)* (1936) by [Djuna Barnes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djuna_Barnes).
Set primarily in Paris during the interwar years, *Nightwood* follows a group of deeply entangled characters navigating love, obsession, longing, identity, and loss. Dark, poetic, and psychologically intense, the novel has become one of the defining works of literary modernism.
A short description of the book reads:
*Widely regarded as a modernist masterpiece, Nightwood explores desire, alienation, gender, and emotional dependency through some of the most lyrical and haunting prose of the twentieth century. It is also considered one of the earliest major novels to openly portray same-sex love between women.*
You can read more about the book [here](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53101.Nightwood) and listen to it as an audiobook [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoAM5_gJNZw):
Although *Nightwood* has never had a major film adaptation, the novel has had a profound literary influence. Writers such as T. S. Eliot, who helped edit and publish the book, praised its style and originality, and it has since become a cult classic within both modernist and queer literary history.
For other resources on how to get a hold of classic books, please see the *[About](https://www.meetup.com/copenhagen-classic-book-book-club/)* section on the front page of the group.
We meet up on **Saturday, June 13th, at 4 p.m.**
The location will once again be the [Garden of the Royal Library](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Library_Garden,_Copenhagen).
During the spring and summer months, we always meet outside here. If the weather turns rainy, we will simply move indoors.
Please remember to bring your suggestion for the next classic book to read.
And, as always, please be mindful and respectful of each other, so that everyone feels welcome and appreciated.
In the meantime, happy reading/listening — or however you prefer to do it.

Shut Up & Write!™ Copenhagen
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at our Copenhagen Shut Up & Write! sessions.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, résumé, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
- 15 minutes of hellos and getting settled; maybe some quick intros.
- Then, the timer starts! : writing for 1 hour.
- After the hour is up... chat / take off / keep writing, if you're on a roll.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens once the hour of writing is complete. Writing can be very solitary... connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
It's best to be on time, but BEING LATE IS ALSO OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check in with us after the session. (We’ll be the ones with the small Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Café Philo Copenhagen
We meet on Saturdays late mornings to have a casual, meaningful conversation on topics of interest to everyone chosen on the spot by majority voting. So please feel free to propose your own topic!
Everyone is welcome to talk, but if you prefer to just join and listen, that is perfect too.
As the contacted cafés usually only give reservations to eating guests, it is very welcome if you order something to eat during our stay. This is however not mandatory.
This event is in English.
The exact place can still change.
Softer Dating - 35-55
**Summer Flavours & The Art of Embodied Dating** \- \(Age 35\-55\)\*
As the summer heat slowly starts to build, we invite you to another round of Softer Dating!
[Tickets through House of Play](https://www.houseofplay.dk/special-events/softer-dating-1)
Dating can often times feel very “heady” and intellectual. We think about what to say, try to be funny etc. but by doing that we miss out on a bunch of other juicy and good stuff!
This is for you, if you are ready to explore new ways of being in connection beyond the regular small-talk.
The thing is, our bodies are incredibly good at understanding what they like and dislike. While the mind is busy making up stories, the body, already senses what is happening in this moment.
In this event you are invited to allow your body to lead your experience.
*Words and thoughts get to take a little break tonight.*
You won’t have to think about what to say next, what to share in order to fill the silence. You get full permission to be in the body, and we will guide you into that space.
**WHAT YOU'LL TAKE WITH YOU**
Beyond the evening itself, many people leave with:
* **New ways of connecting** - discovering forms of interaction that go beyond talking
* **Greater body awareness** - more in touch with your own body, your yes, and no
* **Self-knowledge** - understanding yourself more deeply through experience rather than analysis
* **Confidence** - both in social spaces and in honoring your own boundaries
* **A shifted perspective** - on how you approach people and relationships going forward
You'll learn to take responsibility for your own experience, developing the skill and ability to shape what happens rather than waiting for the other person to create it. This often translates into presence, a quality that serves you far beyond dating.
**THE EVENING**
**Part 1: Embodied Moments of connection**
You’ll meet a range of people through short, guided one-on-one experiences. By removing the pressure of choosing, we create space to simply be present and curious.
Consent is explicit throughout. All exercises are invitations, you can always choose to do less or observe.
**Part 2: Guided exploration with choice**
As the group has landed and found comfort together, you now choose freely who you want to connect with.
We’ll explore connection through:
• Moving your body (dance, movement)
• Mindful touch (soft, consensual)
• Curious conversations
• Observation & rest (take a break anytime)
Touch and closeness may arise, if desired. The atmosphere is intimate but not sexual. No nudity, no pressure.
PS: We don’t share the specific exercises in advance for a couple of reasons: to keep the surprise; because what we do depends on the group’s energy. See it as an invitation to trust and stay curious!
[Tickets through House of Play](https://www.houseofplay.dk/special-events/softer-dating-1)
**WHO IS THIS FOR?**
People aged 35-55 looking for meaningful connections.
Any gender expression, style of relating, and sexual preference welcome.
**DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?**
No! Beginners are very welcome.
**DO I NEED TO BRING A PARTNER?**
No, though it might be nice to bring a friend!
**TICKETS**
280 kr for members
350 kr for non-members
We offer a 20% discount to students and low income. Discounts cannot be used on top of other discounts. Please reach out to [info@houseofplay.dk](mailto:info@houseofplay.dk)
[Buy Ticket](https://www.houseofplay.dk/special-events/softer-dating-1)
Tickets are non-refundable.
Be sure to read our cancellation policy and no-show fee [here](https://www.houseofplay.dk/terms-and-conditions)
**CODE OF CONDUCT**
Please read our [Code of Conduct](https://www.houseofplay.dk/code-of-conduct) before attending
1 of 4 Chilies 🌶️
Read about our chili system [here](https://www.houseofplay.dk/chili-system)
**QUESTIONS?**
*What if I don’t like an exercise?*
You can observe instead. We encourage people to take care of their boundaries—it happens and we think it’s wonderful.
*What if I feel awkward?*
Awkwardness and shyness are welcome. You don’t need to pretend. Most people relax naturally after some time.
*What about the gender ratio?*
We can’t guarantee your preference will be there, but so far we’ve had a wide, colorful distribution of genders!
*What if I’m paired with someone I don’t find attractive?*
Softer Dating is about connection, not just romance. Can you bring respect and curiosity, even if there’s no spark? Also, know that you can always step out.

The meetup lasts 2 full hours with optional overtime
Before starting, you can find our table and leave your things so Lou can grab a drink at the café.
Once we are all seated, we introduce ourselves and start cutting and pasting.
• 1s hour- the first round of collage is called freestyle to help us warm up. No restrictions, start finding images to cut out and paste.
• 2nd hour - for the second round, someone proposes some simple "trigger instructions".
In the end, we show our collages and appreciate the diversity of styles.
• After the session, we have the option to extend it a bit to get a drink or some food we can bring or order food so we can hang out a bit more. (Mellemrummet is very relaxing regarding bringing your own food from home or other venues; there is a poke place right in front.)
Everyone is free to do fewer or more collages as wished, the triggers and frameworks are only a reference. We dedicate some time to appreciating techniques, shapes, colours, and textures to learn and get inspired by each other. Alongside, we chat and relax.
These sessions are not a class but rather a community gathering. We try to nurture a friendly atmosphere and take care of each other.
--
Logistics:
• Bring your tools - paper, scrapbook, scissors, cutter, glue, tape, magazines, books, etc. Have it at your side on the day.
• Buy your favourite drink and introduce yourself to the rest of the people, we are kind of an international mix of all ages.

Bad Girls Book Club June 2026
**Our June novel is: *The Eights* by Joanna Miller**
**This month’s novel is set during World War I. It’s a 20th-century historical fiction story about friendship and war, with coming-of-age elements and a slightly haunted tone. The book is 384 pages in print and 10 hours and 9 minutes on audiobook.**
Oxford, 1920. For the first time in its one-thousand-year history, Oxford University officially admits female students. Burning with dreams of equality, four young women move into neighboring rooms in Corridor 8. Beatrice, Dora, Marianne, and Otto—collectively known as The Eights—come from all walks of life, each driven by their own motives, each holding tight to their secrets, and are thrown into an unlikely, unshakable friendship.
Dora was never meant to go to university, but, after losing both her brother and her fiancé on the battlefield, has arrived in their place. Politically-minded Beatrice, daughter of a famous suffragette, sees Oxford as a chance to make her own way - and some friends her own age. Otto was a nurse during the war but is excited to return to her socialite lifestyle in Oxford where she hopes to find distraction from the memories that haunt her. And finally Marianne, the quiet, clever daughter of a village pastor, who has a shocking secret she must hide from everyone, even her new friends, if she is to succeed.
Among the historic spires, and in the long shadow of the Great War, the four women must navigate and support one another in a turbulent world in which misogyny is rife, influenza is still a threat, and the ghosts of the Great War don’t always remain dead.
Hialeah Book Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
**💬 Community Read: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Come As You Are**
We're meeting up to dig into the widely read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid in a discussion-first setting where the book drives the conversation, and the conversation is always the best part.
There is no set agenda — with the discussion shaped entirely by what people bring, and the most interesting moments never come from the planned questions.
You do not need to have finished the book, and mark the passages that made you stop and think, and bring your questions — as the goal is conversation not a book report.
First time here is just as good as any other time to come — and you will find it easy to join the conversation at any point in the evening, nothing beyond the book and your thoughts is needed, and the discussion gets richer with every new reader who joins.
---
**Worth having on hand:**
- The book — dog-eared pages and all
- A hot drink if you like — we are here for a while
- Curiosity and a willingness to hear other readings
- Sticky notes or bookmarks for your favourite parts
**The evening in brief:**
- A quick welcome kicks things off followed immediately by open discussion
- The group digs into the book and the conversation goes wherever it leads
- The evening finishes with a discussion about what to read next
---
🌿 Come for the book and stay for the discussion — join the group and help make it better and you will leave with more than you came with. Can not wait to hear your take. 🌿

Please try to update your attendance if anything changes so we have an accurate head count for print outs and snacks :)
Orlando Book Club: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
**📜 Neighbourhood Read: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid**
Everyone is welcome to join us to unpack and discuss the widely read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid with other local readers over a relaxed evening, and the whole evening is centred around the book and each other.
Any amount of reading is welcome, and bring the lines that stayed with you, and bring your reading experience — because you do not need to be an expert reader to have something valuable to say.
First time here is just as good as any other time to come — and regular members are consistently enthusiastic about welcoming new readers, bring whatever you managed to read and the conversation does the rest, and you will wonder why you waited to come along.
There is no set agenda — with all opinions treated as equally valid, and even familiar readers find new angles in a good group discussion.
---
**A quick overview:**
- Introductions are short and the book takes over within the first few minutes
- Members share their takes and the discussion branches out from there
- The evening finishes with a discussion about what to read next
---
✨ Every book grows when you bring it into a room full of readers — join the group and help make it better and the discussion does the heavy lifting from there. See you on the other side of the last page. ✨
