October 31 - November 1, 2015 at The Tortuga Gallery in Albuquerque “Lifting the Veil” Albuquerque Tarot Symposium features workshops, writing, art and celebration [RSVP to Register]

Albuquerque, New Mexico - A two-day tarot symposium will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 9 am – 6 pm and Sunday, November 1 from 10 am – 3 pm at the Tortuga Gallery, 901 Edith SE, Albuquerque, NM. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants for an intimate group that will feature established local workshop leaders such as Cheryl Ryder, Tarot Teacher and Organizer of the Albuquerque Tarot Tribe, Poets Stewart Warren and Jules Nyquist, and Artist/Poet Denise Weaver Ross.

The Albuquerque Tarot Symposium is about much more than learning to read tarot cards. The first featured presenter is Stewart S. Warren, author of over 20 poetry collections, 5 of which explore antique tarot decks and resonate with Hermetic, Alchemic and philosophic themes. Stewart’s workshop is “Tarot of the Alchemists” which will be a talk and hands-on experience to explore seven primary Alchemical operations as outlined in the Azoth which, along with the Tarot, was an important tool in the spiritual kit of the Renaissance Magi. Stewart is an evocateur and catalyst for positive community, and is also the owner of Mercury HeartLink, a small press in northern New Mexico for discriminating writers.

Cheryl’s workshop is “Lifting the Veil to Reveal Hidden Meanings with Tarot Card Reversals.” “Proficient reading with reversed tarot cards requires one to cross over the threshold that divides the world of obvious meanings from the world of hidden and disguised causes, conditions and energies that are always at work in the background of any situation,” Cheryl says. “We’ll be exploring over a dozen ways to interpret Tarot Card Reversals that will vastly expand your ability to recognize the hidden information and provide truly meaningful guidance during a card reading session.” Ms. Ryder is a hereditary psychic, trained Shaman, and specializes in teaching the use of tarot card imagery to explore one’s own inner subconscious wisdom. She has twice been an evening presenter at the annual Readers Studio tarot conference in New York.

Another featured presenter is poet Jules Nyquist, founder of Jules’ Poetry Playhouse, LLC in Albuquerque who will be leading a workshop on “Writing from the Tarot” where participants will have a chance to process what individual tarot cards mean to them and write their way to explore deeper meanings in the form of memory, journaling, poetry and play.

Artist and poet Denise Weaver Ross will lead the Sunday session: “Drawing the Tarot: Art and Meditation.” Recently, Denise has recreated the entire traditional deck of cards as 26-by-40 inch mixed-media works on paper. Her one-person show, “House of Cards: The Whole Deck” will be showing at Tortuga Gallery during the month of October and during the symposium. In this deck, the Heart Suit combines her personal story with Egyptian and Tarot images. Participants will create their own art project followed by meditation.

Symposium Attendees are invited to stay in the Tortuga Gallery after the close of the Saturday Symposium Program and enjoy refreshments and conversation for the official closing of Denise Weaver Ross’ one woman tarot art show.
