Visit the Joods museum
Joods Historisch Museum, Nieuwe Amstelstraat 1, 1011 PL Amsterdam, Amsterdam, al, NL## From Spinoza to Shabbat
Who were the Jews who began settling in the Netherlands around 1600? What do Jews celebrate on Pesach? And why do Jews wear a kippah? Come and find out at the Jewish Museum.
Through personal stories, unique objects and art you’ll find out everything you ever wanted to know about Jewish religion, history and culture. You’ll learn about Jewish customs, rituals and festivals and you’ll see how Jews keep those traditions alive today. Discover Jewish life then and now and everything in between.
There are several exhibitions on but the one I am mainly interested in is:
Judy Chicago: Revelations
Revelations is a solo exhibition by iconic feminist artist Judy Chicago. Known for challenging the male-dominated art world, Chicago explores themes of gender, power, and social justice. Her focus on language, creation, and forgotten stories reflect her Jewish heritage. It is Chicago’s first solo presentation in the Netherlands.
Judy Chicago (1939) gained prominence in the late 1960s for making work from a woman-centred perspective that challenged the male-dominated art world. Chicago’s work is characterised by a commitment to craft and experimentation, evident in her subject matter, methodology and choice of materials.
