🎄 A Magical Christmas Weekend in Alsace — Colmar
Details
This event is co-hosted by the Meetup groups “Art, Food and Fun” and “The Amsterdam Culture Group.”
Sunday, December 13, 2026
Meeting time: 10:00
Proposed meeting point: in front of the Koïfhus (Old Custom House), Place de l’Ancienne Douane
After Strasbourg, our Christmas weekend continues in Colmar.
Colourful half-timbered houses, canals, medieval streets, Renaissance buildings and an almost suspicious concentration of picturesque corners have made Colmar one of the most recognisable towns in Alsace.
But there is rather more here than a Christmas postcard.
We’ll meet at 10:00 for a cultural walk through the historic centre, exploring the architecture, history and stories behind the town and discovering some of the places that have shaped its identity over the centuries.
We’ll keep the exact route to ourselves for now.
The main walk will finish at approximately 13:00–13:30, so anyone who needs to travel home early can comfortably join us for the morning and still experience the complete city walk.
## 🍽️ Staying a little longer?
For those who are in no hurry to leave Alsace, we’ll continue with lunch together.
After lunch, anyone who would like to stay a little longer can join us for an optional visit to the Musée Unterlinden.
The museum is home to the extraordinary Isenheim Altarpiece, created by GrĂĽnewald and Niclaus of Haguenau in the early 16th century and widely regarded as one of the great masterpieces of European art.
The museum visit is completely optional, so you can join us for the morning walk only, stay for lunch, or make a full day of it.
## 👟 Practical information
We’ll be walking for most of the morning, so comfortable shoes and warm clothing are strongly recommended.
Lunch, museum admission and personal expenses are paid individually.
The precise walking route and lunch location will not be announced in advance — partly to keep some surprises, and partly because a little flexibility is useful when travelling in December.
This event is the second part of our Alsace Christmas Weekend. You are very welcome to join even if you did not attend Strasbourg on Saturday.
