What we’re about

Have you ever listened to the sound of bells from a church or town hall and wondered how that sound was ever made? This is your chance to learn an Art that is almost 400 years old.

It is hard to describe The Art of Change (Bell) Ringing. It is a team sport. It is a case of personal mastery of mind and body. It is an Art of almost limitless challenges and opportunities to learn at any level.

The Art of Change (Bell) Ringing is also a very social activity, as this requires teamwork, and we often travel to different towers and places where bells exist.

The Art requires a special combination of rhythm, counting, music, physical dexterity, teamwork, ability to memorise patterns as well as listening and visual sensitivity.

The Art of Change ringing is described as "the art of ringing a set of tuned bells in a tightly controlled and coordinated manner to produce precise variations in their successive striking (sounding) sequences known as "changes"".

We ring both tower bells, where these can weigh several hundred kilograms, but also hand bells, where most often we ring one bell in each hand.

What we offer in this group is an opportunity to be taught how to get involved in this fascinating activity. Learning requires a number of hours of one on one teaching lessons as well as demonstration of the Art with our Melbourne based teams.

Learning and attending is FREE - it just requires your commitment.
