Denver Deadheads! Workingman’s Wednesdays is a weekly open jam where we explore the music, spirit, and community of the Grateful Dead. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a musician looking for a welcoming place to stretch out on classic Dead tunes, this is a space to search for the sound.
We’re here every Wednesday from 6:00-9:00pm (5:45pm setup) at ‘DJ Guy’ on Google.
While there is a fee of $20 for these jams simply to help pay the lease (beats waiting for short time slots!), first timers get to try it for free to get a feel to see if you'd like to come back. We can make other arrangements if needed; just reach out!
What you can expect
A quality backline with full drum kit, keyboard, guitar + bass amps, microphones + stands, misc. percussion, live PA, and soundboard. Just bring your instruments!
We welcome all musicians but cap each week at the following: 3 guitarists, 2 bass players, 2 drummers, 2 keyboard players, and 2 backup vocalists. This is so everyone has ample time to play the music. Please sign up here on Meetup in advance of the weekly jam and announce your instrument and/or if you plan to sing.
While this is an open jam, and we’ll have plenty of time to improvise, you can expect us to jam out to the songs below (to be rotated each session – we’re building toward one show every season. Ask us about the quarterly showcase!).
What will we play?
We usually end up playing between 15-20 songs, but you can for sure expect to play these:
• Bertha
• Minglewood Blues
• Ramble on Rose
• Cassidy
• Brown Eyed Women
• Mama Tried
• Peggy-O
• Any other Dead tunes you want to play!
Interested in taking your playing to the next level?
Every three months, we host a quarterly public showcase at DJ Guy for those looking to play in front of a live crowd! Invite your friends & family to watch you and fellow Deadheads recreate a show. The first showcase will be held Friday, September 25, and we will be performing 9/25/76. If you would be interested in participating in the quarterly showcase, please see host Matt English.
