The BCW is a non profit organization that educates students in woodworking. Part of our revenue comes from the adult classes we offer to the community. Come learn or hone your woodworking skills with us and support a local organization working to make a difference in Durham.

Frame with Finesse: Craft Your Own Picture Frame!

Build a beautiful custom picture frame using traditional half-lap joinery in this hands-on woodworking class. This beginner-friendly project teaches one of woodworking’s most essential and elegant joinery methods — creating strong, clean corners that highlight your craftsmanship.
You’ll measure, cut, shape, and assemble a frame using precision techniques that will serve you in future projects. By the end, you’ll leave with a finished frame ready to display your favorite photo or artwork.
What You'll Learn
- How to measure accurately and cut half-lap joints for perfect corner alignment
- Safe, proper use of saws and other essential tools
- Techniques for achieving tight-fitting joints
- Sanding and finishing methods to enhance the natural beauty of the wood
- Assembly and gluing strategies for professional results

🔨 Build Your Own Workbench! 🔨
Ever wanted to create your own sturdy workbench? Join us for this beginner-friendly workshop where you'll build a simple yet solid bench in just a few hours!
With just a few 2x4s, screws, and a 2'x4' sheet of plywood, you'll walk away with a functional workbench perfect for your projects.
Due to the size of the project, partners are welcome to work on one project. Please email andrea@bullcitywoodshop.org after registration with the name of the second participant. All participants are required to fill out the BCW waiver.

"On The Bench" Community Workshop – Help us Build Benches for Durham Bus Stops
The Bull City Woodshop, 1912 E Pettigrew St,, Durham, NC, USThis is a FREE community workshop to provide benches for the Durham community. Please register through our website here.

Grab a friend and come along to build a bench that will impact the wider Durham Community!
This community workshop will offer the tools, materials, plans, and support to guide you through building a bench as a participant in the class. Workshops are led by volunteer instructors from several local nonprofit partners. The bench will then be delivered to a local bus stop that is lacking seating.
This initiative is put together in partnership with Play, NC, Bike Durham, and the Bull City Woodshop. Read more about it here!
While the workshop is FREE for you, there is still a cost to providing these benches! Each bench costs appx $125. If you would like to donate towards this initiative, please do so here!
Please note: Registration is for one participant only. If you plan to attend with a friend, family member, or child, each person must reserve their own seat. Children must be 12 years of age or older and accompanied by an adult for the entire workshop. This class is not designed for younger children.
All participants must complete a liability waiver before entering the workshop or participating in any activities. Please complete the waiver ahead of time here.
