What we’re about
We meet every Saturday at a local coffee shop to play games, hang out, and connect over a shared love of the board. Whether you’re new to chess or a lifelong player—everyone’s welcome.
This is, anecdotally, the largest chess Meetup in the Bay Area. It’s been running weekly for over ten years, and has grown into a friendly, informal, and self-organizing tradition. Many players don’t even know it’s a Meetup—they just know: Saturdays = chess.
We’re here to play, to be kind to one another, and to keep the game alive in the city we love.

Yes! This is a new sister event to our long-running Saturday Starbucks meetup. Same welcoming vibe, new day and location.Q: What if I don’t see anyone right away?
People come and go casually throughout the evening. Grab a seat, maybe order a drink, and look around—chances are someone’s already playing or setting up.Q: Do I need to bring a board?
It helps, but it’s not required. Many players bring boards and are happy to share. If you’ve got one, bring it. If not, come anyway.Q: Who’s organizing this?
This is a joint effort between the The Chess Players and Boba Drive. The new gathering is a way to make more space for our growing community.Q: What’s the vibe?
Welcoming, low-key, and social. All ages and skill levels are encouraged. Play a few games, make a friend, sip some boba, and enjoy your Sunday.We believe in kindness and community—whether you win, lose, or just hang out.
