About us
The Commonplace Club is a literary group for readers who love literary fiction, essays, memoirs, diaries, cultural criticism, and women’s literature. Inspired by writers such as Joan Didion, Eve Babitz, Anaïs Nin, Annie Ernaux, bell hooks, and Deborah Levy, this group is for people who enjoy thoughtful conversations about books, writing, culture, identity, relationships, art, memory, and the experience of being women in the world. We may read books together, discuss essays, share favorite passages, visit bookstores and museums, or simply gather over coffee or wine to talk about what we’re reading. Whether you’re an avid annotator, a collector of quotes, a notebook keeper, or someone who just loves getting lost in beautifully written literature, you’re welcome here.
