The Creative House of Lancaster

Join us for the Indie Journalist Meetup at The Candy Factory (TCF), 342 N. Queen St., Lancaster.

Creator journalism is on the rise. I had the privilege of attending the ONA (online news association) conference in Chicago (thanks, Jess!) a few weeks ago (with fellow Lancastrian Ed Hanko) and there was a ton of info and conversation around the benefits and challenges of being an independent creator journalist. For this meetup, I will report back my overall findings and impressions, which will be a jumping off point for... how do we create independent news formats (newsletters, blogs, podcasts, etc.) that are not just fulfilling but financially viable. I don't think there's a playbook, but curious to start throwing around ideas. There will be plenty of room for open discussion and questions as well.

ABOUT THE INDIE JOURNALIST MEETUP
A meetup for independent creator journalists covering news, events, culture, and lifestyle while navigating the creator economy in Lancaster and surrounding areas. All creators welcome: podcasters, freelance writers, bloggers, YouTubers, livestreamers, and more!

Our mission is to create a space to gather in real life, to discuss the rewards and challenges of bringing authentic news and information to the Lancaster community, and to encourage participants to collaborate and share knowledge when appropriate to strengthen our local information ecosystem.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Jason Mundok is a seasoned media producer with over two decades of experience creating compelling content and leading creative teams. At So Good Media, he produces audio podcasts, marketing videos, and original programming.

He currently hosts So Good Lancaster, a show that celebrates the people and ideas that make Lancaster, PA, so good.

The Creative House of Lancaster is a project of The Candy Factory, a coworking + social club located in the heart of Lancaster, PA.

Don't have a project at the moment? That's just fine. I’ll have materials to share.
What to Expect:

• A welcoming, inclusive environment
• A variety of art materials to experiment with
• Demonstrations on how to use different art materials
• The opportunity to work on your personal projects
• The chance to meet and collaborate with fellow creatives
• A moment to relax, create, and escape the usual routine

Who Should Join?
Anyone and everyone! Bring an idea for a card, a knitting pattern you’ve been wanting to try, a shirt that needs mending, or a full-on canvas and paints. Most of all, bring your lovely self! We believe in the power of community and creativity.
