About us

The Derbyshire Walkers are all about..

We're a sociable friendly group who enjoy walking in the countryside.
We take our time to enjoy the beauty of our surroundings.
The age range in DW tends to be 50s to 60s.
We share our stories, sometimes happy and sometimes sad, and long lasting friendships are made.
The beautiful Peak District gives us wonderful experiences every season, whether it's sunshine or showers, there's beauty in everything.
Why not come along and join us on one of our adventures in our beautiful countryside..

Our Walks
Our Group accommodates Walkers who enjoy short walks of 8 miles, to longer walks of 10+miles with a bit of a challenge.
Our walks are mainly in the Peak District, there's a mixture of closer or further afield walks depending on where you live of course.
The Derbyshire Walkers is mainly suitable for moderate to more leisurely walkers, enjoyment is first and foremost, as well as respecting slower walkers.
The walks are always in varied terrain, hills, dales and rocky edges with stunning views and adventurous trails along rivers, through enchanting woodland, and visits to Historical Churches and Villages.
If you're joining a walk, please read the description carefully and make sure you can manage the length and level of difficulty of the walk, if in doubt, please message the Walk Leader before attending the walk.
Dogs are always welcome! 🐾🐾

Contribution Towards Meetup Subscription Costs For Organisers
The Subscription has an Annual contribution of £10, Organisers pay £350 Annually to use Meetup the Platform for Events.
One free walk is offered and people are then welcome to join the group with a payment of £10 (which is 80p a month).
Anyone who is not happy with the group for any reason, can request a full refund during the first month of joining.
Finding your happy place is important..

What To Expect On A Walk
Group count and introduction at the meeting point of a walk before setting off..
Picnic lunch on every walk all year round whatever the weather as well as regular breaks.
We make sure everyone is managing the pace with catching up points along the way.
The Walk Leader stops at every turn off for people to catch up, if someone is struggling the group will be told to slow down and avoid rushing ahead of the group.
The Walk Leader sets the pace according to the group abilities.
This is an enjoyable day out where people socialise, enjoy the scenery along the way and support eachother.

*Note:
If you wish to leave a walk, please INFORM THE WALK LEADER DIRECTLY FIRST to avoid looking for a potentially lost group member..

Dogs
Our 4 legged friends 🐕‍🦺🐕 are always welcome on walks, dog owners should act responsibly around livestock and make sure dogs are on leads before gates are opened to cross lanes and roads.

Guests
Members may bring one guest as a +1, and after attending one group walk, they would request to join as a paying member.

Changes And Rescheduling Walks
The Walk Leader may change or reschedule walks.
Sometimes at short notice, the walk or route may be changed or rescheduled if the terrain is unsuitable or adverse weather conditions such as heat waves, heavy rain, snow and ice affect the chosen route. As well as low number attendance on the longer walks further afield.

Social Events
We often go to the pub at the end of a walk, but sometimes we have a pub stop during the walk, weather dependent.
Group meals and festive themed events are often put on the Events Calendar.
