Details

Our walk starts from Ashover, one of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire.
Ashover has a fascinating 15th century church, many historic buildings and beautiful countryside.
This ancient village is situated in the beautiful Amber Valley nestling in picturesque countryside with wooded slopes and rocky hills rising all around.
It has a long history dating back to the Saxons who called the village 'Essovve', beyond the ash trees.
This tiny Derbyshire village played an important part in the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. Traditionally, Bowman from Ashover, fought with Henry V at the famous Battle.
The local pub, The Crispin, also has direct links to this momentous event in English history, outside the pub there's the famous signboard telling the history of the Inn.

From Ashover the route goes up to Ashover Rock, with an interesting trig point. It sits on an area of heathland at 299m above sea-level with excellent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Our route continues through pastures quarries and farmland with views emerging of Ogston Reservoir and Woolley.
Ogston Reservoir is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, there's a variety of habitats including farmland and woodland with many species of birds, including spring and autumn passage migrants.
Ogston is one of the largest bird clubs in Britain sending extensive records of sightings to the British Trust of Ornithology.

The route heads away from the reservoir across pastures up onto Ravensnest Tor, a massive rocky crag forming a ridge with spectacular views and popular with climbers, buzzards also inhabit the area.
The route goes along the ridge into the thick woodland.

Emerging from the dense trees, we head down through woodland for the last leg of our walk past Overton Cottages, and heading down through woodland finally into Ashover.

A fairly moderate walk with undulating paths and a steepish climb onto Ravensnest

Bring a picnic lunch snacks and enough water to keep you going,

Catching up points and breaks along the way as always

Walking boots advised, as always check the weather and dress accordingly

Looking forward to sharing another adventure with you..🚶‍♀️🐕🐕‍🦺🦋🌸👨‍🦯🚶🐄🐑🦋
