Details

This walk has replaced the Tansley walk due to an exposed route unsuitable for walking in over 30°..
We'll be walking on Riverside paths and through Woodland.

This beautiful varied walk takes us through pastures woodland pretty villages and along scenic riverside paths.

Our route starts in Baslow and takes us through woodland and along Riverside paths to the Village of Froggatt. The Duke of Rutland originally owned the village when farmers and stonemasons occupied the attractive stone cottages.
On reaching Froggatt, we cross the river by the 17th century bridge.
Froggatt Bridge is unusual in having a large central arch on the village side and a smaller arch on the far side. This was thought to be because the bridge was extended following the widening of the river when the Derwent was dammed at Calver.
From here, we follow the scenic riverside path, the riverbank is well wooded and there are good views along the way of Froggatt Edge.
Our route follows the river past Calver Weir, this incredible structure, now scheduled as an ancient monument, was built in the 19th century to provide water to power cotton spinning at Calver Mill.
Our route joins a footpath known as The Goit, at Stocking Farm, the building with a bell tower, was once a little school for millworkers’ children, it was constructed in the early 1800s by Horatio Mason the mill owner.
Our route emerges at Calver Bridge, and we continue on the riverside path to Bubnell where we cross over the Bridge taking us back into Baslow.
