🍁Cromford 8 mile Walk🍂Matlock Bath🍂Abraham Heights🍁

Details

Our walk starts from Cromford and goes through woodland and along tracks with great views.

After leaving Cromford Wharf, we head up through woodland bringing us out at Upperwood passing the Cable Cars and with beautiful views of Riber Castle on the opposite side.

Our route continues to climb up to Abraham Heights. The views below are stunning from the hilltops.
Our route heads through Matlock Dale and goes along Long Tor and into Shining Cliffs woods to emerge on the edge of Matlock near the riverside path crossing the bridge across the Derwent and up to High Tor.

The views along this hillside are spectacular of Matlock Dale and Matlock Bath below.
Matlock Bath was developed as one of England’s first true tourist destinations. It occupies a beautiful position in a limestone gorge on the River Derwent, with riverside gardens and steep wooded hillsides.
Matlock Bath has been a popular tourist attraction since the late 17th Century when the healing properties of its warm spa waters were first discovered. Access to the area was improved in the 18th Century, and by the 19th Century, Matlock Bath was the place to visit.

Our route passes Giddy edge, a narrow stretch of uneven path 300 feet above the ground, this precipitous pathway, with its wrought iron handrail and dizzy heights, was created by the Victorians as a tourist attraction.
Giddy Edge perched in the High Tor Gardens above Matlock Bath, is recognised as one of the most dangerous footpaths in the world with its 300 ft drop beside it, only the trickier sections are protected by the wrought iron handrails with nothing standing between you and the edge, the views across Matlock Dale are truly stunning, and well worth the effort for those brave enough to do it..
I have done it a few times and find it exciting and exhilarating..
Giddy Edge will not be attempted in wet conditions.
Both paths meet up at Mini Lud's Church, a natural fissure through the rocky hillside, so it's an opportunity to walk through it and it brings us out onto our route to Cromford Station, just a short walk back to the start..

Plenty of warm layers, walking boots essential, as always check the weather and dress accordingly

Bring a packed lunch, snacks and drinks to keep you going until we get to a suitable picnic spot always weather dependent..

Look forward to sharing a wonderful adventure with you all..👩‍🦯🐕🧑‍🦯🐕‍🦺🐑🐄🐈‍⬛👩‍🦯
