This section of the Cleveland Way, our chosen coastal route between Saltburn and Whitby, is stunning with bracing cliff top paths, lovely beaches and pretty villages.
The walk starts in the pretty Seaside Town of Saltburn, with its Victorian Pier stretching out to sea and beautiful sandy beaches.
The route passes through Skinningrove, and Cattersty Sands. It continues to the village of Boulby with some of the highest cliffs in England, at 203 metres (666 ft) above sea level.
The next stage of our walk takes us to the pretty village of Staithes, a quaint sheltered harbour with high cliffs and pretty cottages.
Nearby, is Cowbar Nab with a huge Seabird Colony including Kittiwake, Fulmar and Razorbill.
The Coastal Path continues to Port Mulgrave and Runswick Bay.
Runswick Bay is another picturesque Village with a beautiful beach, sheltered bay and pretty little cottages dotted on the hillside. The white thatched property on the seafront is the only remaining thatched house on the Yorkshire coast.
The final section takes us past the moonscape quarry at Sandsend Ness before going along Whitby Sands and finishing at Whitby. Time for a chill by the sea with a glass in hand..
The Coastal Path continues on from Whitby to Robin's Hood Bay visiting the ruined Whitby Abbey high on the cliff top. The coastal route follows breathtaking high cliff vistas along the way to the picturesque fishing village of Robin's Hood Bay.
The walk to Robin Hood's Bay is scheduled for those staying over until Monday.
Whitby is a beautiful Seaside Town featuring stunning coastlines and charming cobbled streets. Home to narrow alleys and quaint streets that meander down to the busy quay, with picturesque harbourside houses and small shops filled with crafts and antiques.
Climb the famous 199 Steps to enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline The imposing ruin of Whitby Abbey comes into view, built in 657 AD and set high on a cliff above the Seaside Town of Whitby.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is located on the Cleveland Way, a long-distance footpath that runs for 109 miles along the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Coast.
It has the last remaining Pier in Yorkshire, the Grade II listed Pier is an impressive Victorian iron structure that extends out into the North Sea for 200 metres.
There's also Saltburn Cliff Tramway, the oldest Water Balanced Funicular still in operation in Great Britain. It links Saltburn town with the only remaining pleasure Pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is home to the Saltburn Miniature Railway, which has been operating since 1947.
The Village of Runswick Bay is a picturesque coastal village with
whitewashed and natural honey-hued stone cottages topped with red roofs. The cottages are built into the cliffside reached by narrow paths and plenty of steps.
There's a mile of secluded bay and beautiful beach, it nestles in between Sandsend and Staithes, and forms part of the Cleveland Way which runs along its beach. The beach is sand with scattered rocks and stony areas, when the tide is out, the rocks exposed near the shoreline are frequently found to contain interesting fossils being part of the Jurassic Coast.
There are no cars allowed in the village and it makes a quiet place
for a stroll through the narrow winding streets.
Bring Walking Gear Waterproofs and Boots as usual
The routes along the cliff tops can be slippery, be prepared for all eventualities..
Looking forward to sharing an exciting weekend by the sea..
