- Guy Davidson: What did I learn? 25 years at Creative AssemblyJetBrains N.V., Amsterdam, NH
Hello! 🙂
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome back Guy Davidson to our Meetup, especially after his visit from last year (see https://www.meetup.com/the-dutch-cpp-group/events/296311316/), where he made a great Meetup possible as well and brought many interesting stories. And once again I’m also pleased to announce that JetBrains will host the Meetup, and special thanks to Anastasia!
Guy Davidson is an eminent figure in the C++ world, with a wealth of experience in programming, writing standard library proposals, and regularly speaking at C++ conferences. So I hope the weather will be great and we’ll have an awesome meetup again! More info on the talk below.
There might be a stream, but no recording will be made.
### Abstract
After 25 years, I parted company with Creative Assembly. It was time for new challenges. While I was there, I learned a lot about how to make games, how to maintain large codebases, how to lead teams, and many other topics. This talk covers nine of the most important lessons I took away.
### Biography
Guy Davidson has recently concluded a prolific 25-year tenure at Creative Assembly, where he was pivotal in shaping the technological direction of the company. Known for his significant contributions to the C++ community and his passion for game development, Guy is a seasoned speaker who engages his audience with rich insights and experiences. He is also an accomplished musician, enjoying time at the piano and cherishing moments of quiet contemplation.

Hi Everyone!
We have some big news to share. Over the last several months, Hans, Andrew and myself have been busy with a new project for everyone: the first major international C++ conference to take place in the Benelux, right here in the Netherlands. After coordinating with sponsors and other professionals in the C++ community across several countries, we are finally ready to announce C++ Under the Sea.
We are also very pleased to announce the involvement of our keynote speaker, Jason Turner, who will kick off the inaugural year of this new conference. Jason and we are very excited about this new event to further expand the opportunities and impact of the Netherlands C++ community, and bring high-profile professionals from around the world to speak to our developers here at home.
C++ Under the Sea will be held on October 11 at a new, beautiful and modern conference facility called Breepark in Breda, easily accessible by public transport and centrally located for access from several large C++ communities in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Belgium, and Germany.
Because this conference would not have been possible without years of support and participation by the Dutch C++ community, we are announcing a "super-early bird" discount to members of our local meetups, who have helped keep the community strong for a long time. This early ticket option will be available for the next three weeks, after which we will announce the call for speakers and revert to normal ticketing.
To learn more about the conference and get super-early bird tickets, please hop over to https://cppunderthesea.nl/ and see what is happening!
Cheers,
Hans, Andrew & Ray
