Join Our French Learning Community Conference
⭐A special event where curious minds meet and French learners shine. ⭐

We are hosting a French presentation featuring a remarkable student who is learning French alongside you. This event centres around a passionate speaker who presents on a topic he loves — entirely in French — for 30 to 45 minutes.

Who is the guest speaker?

Mike Nicolucci

Bio: Mike was born in Maine in the US and has lived overseas in a number of countries, including Italy for seven years, Cuba for one year, Greece for six months, and several extended stays in Bosnia and Germany.

Both his parents were bilingual with his father speaking Italian as his primary language and his mother French as her primary language. She later learned Italian and Spanish.
His exposure to both French and Italian was present growing up but not systematically taught at home despite his mother‘s best efforts.
He studied Italian in college and then attended the Defense Language Institute for Italian at the Presidio of Monterey, California. He was then stationed on an Italian NATO base for three years where he was the commander of a 30 person American detachment co-located with 1000 Italian soldiers.

His interest in learning French came later and was initially assisted by his mother and grandmother.
Mike currently lives in Arizona and goes back-and-forth several times a year to Italy and Europe with his wife Stella who is from Salerno near the Amalfi Coast. He has three adult daughters who he actively encourages on their foreign language journeys.

Title: Viva Italia!

Summary: Mike will talk about his experiences in Italy since the late 1960s and how the country has changed while still offering unique experiences and cultural treasures to the world. There is so much to share! We hope you can attend!

Mike takes French courses with me. He does this on a voluntary basis in order to practice French and showcase something he loves or truly care about or are deeply interested in.

Practical Details :

***

During the Presentation:

  • Please keep your microphone muted to maintain the flow
  • Cameras are optional throughout the entire meeting
  • If you choose to participate in discussions, we encourage turning your camera on for a more engaging experience

After the Presentation:

We open the floor for casual, respectful group discussion in French, where you can ask questions, exchange ideas, and share experiences related to the topic.

While our guest speakers may occasionally accommodate questions in English, we encourage you to stretch yourself by using French — even if it feels challenging. Growth happens outside our comfort zone, especially in language learning!

Who Should Attend:

  • Low-intermediate speakers (or a higher level) who can participate in simple conversations are warmly encouraged to join the discussion
  • Beginners or shy learners are equally welcome to attend, listen, and absorb the French exposure

This is an excellent opportunity to hear spoken French and connect with fellow learners on the same journey.

Our Community Values: Every opinion is respected and everyone is welcome. We maintain a positive environment by avoiding divisive topics like politics, religion, and sexuality.

About The French Club

The French Club is a global French-learning community focused on real, practical fluency. Founded in September 2024, it has grown into 21 international Meetup chapters across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with 8,300+ members and a structured curriculum built in-house (200 modules, from A1 to B2, about 4,000 pages).

Here on Meetup, you’ll find our FREE live events including the full 10-week A1 and A2 courses, A1 and A2 conversation practice, A1 and A2 homework sessions, student-led events such as 'Raconte-moi une histoire', and occasional special sessions with partner companies.

You’ll also see free learning events hosted by members of our teaching team, community leaders, and student collaborators.

If you’re looking for a more guided experience, we also offer paid options on our website (https://www.frenchclub.net) such as semi-private group classes (A1 to B2), the 'Atelier de Conversation', various other workshops for different language skills, and French immersion experiences (Quebec city in June 2026, Nice in Dec. 2026, etc.).

Our long-term home is https://www.frenchclub.net . Free events are still featured on Meetup but the above mentioned paid options are only available on https://www.frenchclub.net as of the end of March 2026. Come and take a look!

See you at an event soon!
