About us
We run guided walks most weekends in the Yorkshire Dales. These are usually linear walks using the bus to one place and returning from another - with time for a drink before the bus back!
These walks vary in length, difficulty and location. But are designed to be as accessible to as many people as possible using public transport.
You don’t have to be a member to come on any of our walks. But we hope if you enjoy them and continue to come you would join. The money from your membership does directly to supporting the DalesBus network we use.
We post all walks on meetup. You can join as a member and find out more about our campaigning and join at: www.friendsofdalesbus.org You do not have to reserve a space or anything like that - just say hello on the bus!
You do not need any experience walking in order to come on our walks. But you do need to have suitable gear (footwear, waterproofs etc.) as well as bring your own food + drinks. In order to ensure we arrive in time for the bus back there may be a pace to keep, if you are unsure about this we would encourage you to come on an easier walk first. Contact details for the walk leader are included in the event description if you have any questions you need to ask.

Thwaite, Keld, Gunnerside Swaledale
Thwaite, DL11 6DR, Richmond, GBA mostly low-level walk starting in pretty village of Thwaite, heading to top of Swaledale at Keld & finishing in Gunnerside with a pub for refreshments & cafe if we are early enough. Beautiful views of Swaledale valley along the way.
8 miles – Moderate - (Explanation of gradings). Please note this is a one way walk, please see the information below for access by public transport or let us know if you need a hand.
OUT Catch train from Leeds (0909) Shipley (0922) Skipton (0954) alight Ribblehead Station (1033). Catch bus 830 from Ribblehead Station (1042) alight Thwaite (11:25).
RETURN on bus 830 from Gunnerside (1732) to Ribblehead stn. (1832) for (1851) train via Settle & Shipley to Leeds arr (2008).

Newby Head Farm, Hawes, DL8 3LX, Hawes, GBTrain & bus. Alighting from the 830 at Newby Head (before Hawes) we will follow the Ribble Way climbing towards the top of Snaizeholme valley then descend into Snaizeholme & through the Red Squirrel viewing area following the path back to Hawes. This is moderate- strenuous walk with some possible off path walking & boggy ground around Snaizeholme. Ending in Hawes with time for refreshments.
10 miles (but with a 6hr window for route) – Moderate/Strenuous - (Explanation of gradings). Please note this is a one way walk designed to be accessed by public transport, please ask if you need a hand with options.

Brimham Rocks, Summerbridge, Harrogate,, North Yorkshire, HG3 4DW, GBA Guided walk following on the footsteps of the Cistercian Monks to Fountains Abbey. Along the way, you'll be met with expansive views from Riva Hill to Brimham Rocks.

OUT Catch bus 825 York Railway Stn (0917), Harrogate (1015), Ripley Cross (1028) alight Brimham Rocks (1043).
Meet at the Welcome Hut in the car park at 11am.
RETURN on bus 825 from Fountains Abbey (1639) via Brimham Rocks to Ripley Cross to Harrogate (1727) & York arr. (1815).
