What we’re about

The Glasgow Photography Meetup welcomes anyone who enjoys taking pictures, regardless of experience. If you are keen to meet up with fellow photographers to exchange ideas, talk about and take pictures, The Glasgow Photography Club is for you.

As a group we have a special interest in people in pictures and portraiture, as well as a comprehensive list of meetups ranging from landscape, street and anything else you care to try out. Let us know the kind of meetups you would like to get involved in, and we will try to arrange events that are of interest.

If you add your attendance to a meetup, please do remember to change your RSVP to let us know if you can no longer make the event. Anyone who fails to do this on more than three occasions will be taken off the members list.

If portrait photography is something you have an interest in or you just want to try but don't know how, look no further: this is an event for you.

All you need to bring is your camera and we'll provide a professional model, lights, and guidance on how to get going. It's not as hard as you might think, but getting over that initial hump is often the hardest part.

Spaces are limited to just three attendees to allow for lots of individual attention and time with the model.

We will be in the rather excellent cloisters at Glasgow University, which make for an excellent environment, full of all sorts of creative possibility.

Fee and payment

For this event, the fee is £65 and is limited to four places.

Refund information

Refunds will be given if the event is cancelled. When an event is arranged, the booked models have to be paid whether the event goes ahead or not. This also applies to venues. A good deal administration and time goes in to organising the Meetups. Many shoots are under subscribed. When this happens we prefer to go ahead, rather that cause disappointment to all involved. If for any reason you are unable to attend an event, we may be able to offer you a spot, free of charge, on a future shoot. This is at the discretion of the organiser. We cannot accommodate requests for specific events. An Organiser will notify you of any availability.

This event is on Saturday, July 19th.

This even is on Saturday 19th July at Ashton Lane Glasgow G12. We will meet outside the Gardener Bar at 10a
For this shoot we will be out and about in The West End of Glasgow, photographing in the fabulous settings of Ashton Lane and surrounding area. We may even nip into some of the bars for photographs before the revelers arrive.
We will meet at The Gardener Bar on Ashton Lane for 10am on Saturday for around two hours. The bar is just a stones throw form the Hillhead Subway Station.
Although not strictly a tutored shoot, an expert will be on hand to help you with set up and advise, so this event is suitable for those who are relatively new to model shoots and experienced photographers alike.

We will be working on a ratio of no more than a 1:3 model to photographer (usually less) and aim to shoot for around 2 hours.
We may have one more model at this event.

You will have access to a variety of lighting equipment and modifiers for use on the day. Pease feel free to bring any additional kit if you wish.

The shoots are informal friendly and fun and you will receive a warm welcome.

Cathcart Old Cemetery, Glasgow

This an 18th century graveyard and is a fabulous setting for a model shoot. It boasts spectacular gravestones and mature foliage. Just what you would expect form a really old graveyard. This great cemetery lends itself self well to an atmospheric/spooky shoot.

Models
We will meet at noon on the day .We will be shooting with professional model/s and be working on a maximum of a 3:1 (usually less) photographer to model ratio. Our intended model is Acid Rain with ,potentially, other models joining us.

Equipment
You are welcome to bring your own flash, etc. if you have them. If not, there will be a selection of lighting and modifiers available to share, including flash and continuous lighting. We will also be bringing a smoke machine along for added atmosphere.

This opportunity would suit any level of experience, as an expert photographer will be on hand to help with set up and advise.

Meeting point
We will meet just inside the main gate near the Bothy house shortly before 12 p.m. If you are attending a later session you will find either see us wandering the graveyard or I will come down to the house to find you.

Join us at Govan Old Parish Church where we will be joined by fabulous models. This aims to be a characterful event.
The church itself is a great Victorian Gothic venue and will make a superb backdrop for photographs.There is also an attached graveyard with ancient stones.

On the day you will have access to a variety of lighting and light modifiers. We will also be bringing long the smoke Macine for added atmosphere. We aim to be working on no more than a 1-2 model to photographer ratio.
Feel free to bring along any equipment of your own too.
You can secure your spot with a deposit of £10 per hourly slot with the balance payable one month prior to the event. The full fee is £45 per hourly slot or a bargain £120 for the entire session (3 hours).
