From Wikipedia:

"[Richard II is a] Shakespearean history play about the lifetime and reign of King Richard II of England (r. 1377–1399). As a dramatized period history of the English monarchy, Richard II chronicles the Machiavellian machinations of the noblemen of the royal court who conspire, precipitate, and realize the downfall and death of the King of England."

From the Colorado Shakespeare Festival website:

"When corrupt, despotic King Richard II ventures off to wage war, the banished Bolingbroke invades to reclaim his stolen inheritance. Embraced by an angry populace and co-opted by self-righteous, greedy nobles, he takes the throne and sets the stage for 32 years of civil war. The first chapter of Shakespeare’s four-part “game of thrones” examines issues critical to contemporary politics, from the embrace of autocracy, the power of wealth, and whether a nation divided can stand."

Speaking of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, stay tuned for a poll related to performance dates. In keeping with our tradition, we'll pick a date for those who are interested to attend a performance of the play together in Boulder.
