What we’re about
Hello, English-speaking, intellectually curious folks in Guanajuato,
This club does not meet regularly in-person in Guanajuato at this time. That may change depending on interest. However, GTO residents are invited to join us monthly on Sunday afternoons for online Zoom topic-driven sessions, Check out the Philosophy Club meetup page for the schedule and descriptions of past, current, and future topics. Typically about 10-15 attend.
The Philosophy Club is an international online community of over 1800 curious and thoughtful people. The club started in a cafe in Seattle in 2016, and went almost exclusively online during the pandemic. Anyone anywhere in the world is welcome to our online monthly sessions.
As main organizer – and as I am based here in la Ciudad de Guanajuato now, I am also open to having in-person discussions of the topics discussed at the online club. Contact me at gto-phil@aporia.net if interested in forming a local group for in-person meetings. If the group is large enough, we may schedule regular meetings. We may meet at the Guanajuato English Language Library or some cafe in town.
Please also checkout the “What we’re about” section as well as topic/event descriptions of the club here: https://www.meetup.com/The-Philosophy-Club/ to get some idea of past topics. We are open to topic suggestions, but we take philosophy to be about fundamental questions in almost any area of human concern. We entertain proposed answers, but do not let them pass without close examination. In the end, serious philosophy is mainly about questions, not answers. Answers are useful because they generate more questions.
All events are free. Your level of participation is up to you, though what you get out of it is enhanced if you consult beforehand some of the resources accessible from the topic pages. Contact me at gto-phil@aporia.net or (52) 558-738-2072 with questions.
Thank you for being curious!
