What we’re about
Now more than 10,000 members! Join us for hikes in the Atlanta area - then dinner and drinks afterward. Most hikes include some local history and some scenic highlights such as old bridges, hidden trails, and the like. We clearly label each hike with skill level, anticipated time of completion, pace, and directions.
FYIs:
. I always include directions in the event description, so please use these written directions and not any pins or Google maps, as these often are incorrect
. On hike days when it is or will potentially be raining, I will announce any cancellations two hours prior to the event by posting "Canceled Rain" in the event title
. We typically do not permit dogs (some parks prohibit them, some terrain is too harsh), but we encourage attendance from any children who can keep the posted pace (but often it is us old fogies trying to keep up!)
. No surprises: We typically hike eight to ten miles - in the woods - which means a) there are uphills and downhills over rocks and roots and through stream beds, so be sure to have proper attire (hiking boots, hiking poles, and enough food and water), and b) be sure you are able to keep the posted pace so as to not needlessly slow the group down
I look forward to seeing you on the trails!

See all- Raven Cliff Falls Hike Before We Shoot the Hooch!Needs location
Let's get in a quick 5 miles at Raven Cliff Falls before we head over to Mike's event and Shoot the Hooch. Note: You can only hike the Raven's Cliff Falls if you prefer or only Shoot the Hooch. It's up to you to decide.
Raven Cliff Falls is a popular and easy hike outside of Helen, GA. We will maintain a fast 2.5 to 3 mile per hour pace as to not be late to the next event which begins promptly at 11:00. I will not wait for latecomers; we will depart for the hike at 8:00 am sharp so please arrive early.
Some areas of the Raven Cliff Trail does have some rocks, roots, and wet areas as well, so poles are suggested if that is your thing. Also, there is one shallow water crossing early on in the hike as the bridge is out. Many people just cross over a fallen tree. So, please do be aware of that.
Parking is $5.00 bring exact cash or pay in advance via the Recreation app. The address in this event will get you to the spot where we will meet when using google maps. Cell signal in that general area can be a wee bit spotty, so it is best to familiarize yourself with the map in advance.
Below is a link that can help you familiarize with the hike beforehand. As always, if you have any questions in advance, please let me know and I will do my best to answer them. I will not respond to questions the day of the hike as I will be driving and getting myself ready to hike and then tube. Please reach out with questions prior to the day of the event.

- "Shoot the Hooch" (Tubing through Helen, GA)Cool River Tubing & Adventures - Headwaters Outpost, Helen, GA
It's not exactly hiking, but hopefully, it will be a fun event. Today, we'll "Shoot the Hooch", tubing for 2-4 hours through Helen, GA on the Chattahoochee River. This being the third year for this event, it is becoming an annual Hiking League tradition.
We'll be using Cool River Tubing (Link Below) and doing their long ride 2-2.5 hours (dependent on river level). This means we'll need to meet at the Headwaters Outpost at:
Headwaters Outpost
112 Poplar Stump Rd
Helen, GA 30545The price is $18, which includes:
- Your Tube
- Shuttle Ride
- Life-Jacket
- Tie Straps
- Our Key-Saver Service
You can buy your ticket in advance, but if the event is cancelled due to weather, Cool River Tubing may not give you a refund. We'll meet at 11:00 at the Headwaters Outpost just outside of town and get on the water as soon as possible, but it will likely be very busy given Helen's popularity.
