Lets say goodbye to 2025 with a good hike. I've always wanted to check out the Buzzard's Roost Loop at Rocky Face Ridge Park near Dalton, GA.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DETAILS BELOW TO ENSURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING YOURSELF INTO.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING BELOW, PLEASE POST IN THE COMMENTS OR DM ME BEFORE THE DAY OF THE HIKE. I WILL NOT BE CHECKING POSTS OR MESSAGES THE DAY OF THE HIKE.

INCLIMATE WEATHER MAY FORCE ME TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE THE HIKE. I WILL MAKE THAT DECISION THE NIGHT BEFORE. PLEASE CHECK THIS EVENT POSTING PRIOR TO DEPARTING FOR THE TRAILHEAD.

We will be closely following this route:
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/georgia/buzzards-roost--2

This is a 9.9 mile loop trail with 1,318 feet of elevation gain. That doesn't sound too bad, but looking at the topography, I suspect we'll it be pretty level at the beginning and then have a big climb up to the ridge. This is not a guided hike and you are responsible for your own ability to keep up the pace, which I anticipate being around 2.5 mph for most of the hike. We'll likely find someplace to stop for views and a quick snack once we're on top of the ridge.

Directions:
The trailhead is located at 34.832059, -84.994388 (Rocky Face Ridge Park).

This is an easy place to find.

  • Simply follow I-75 North from the I-75/I-285 junction for approximately 77 miles
  • Take exit 336 for US-41/US-76 and take a left at the end of the exit ramp
  • Follow US-41 N for just 0.6 miles and then turn right onto Willowdale Rd.
  • Continue for 0.3 miles and then turn left onto Crow Valley Rd.
  • Drive about 2.5 miles until you reach the park, which will be on your left.
