Nickel Boys (2024) is RaMell Ross’s feature debut and is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Colson Whitehead.
Set in the American South in the 1960s, this grim tale of race and prejudice is transformed by the stylised and highly cinematic form that they use to tell the story.
Shot almost entirely from the POV of its two protagonists, the review in The Guardian described it as “a genuinely groundbreaking cinematic work and a sublime piece of film-making”.
